Is there anyway to pull a cel code with out a scanner if not is the 98 gsx an obd1 or obd2 thanks.

Ya, spend $400+ to pull a code and still need a 95 eprom when you can do just as much with the stock ECU(that is if the car is even 4g63 powered)...

Evoscan and cheap Vag cable will work and you will have Very fast logging as well if your car is in-fact a 98... .

OP,
Fill out your profile and you will get more relevant info.

No need a 95 eprom, they can convert a 97 non eprom to eprom.

I use ecmlink and i like it, friendly user + good support on ecmlink forum. That was the fisrt mod i did to my stock 2G when i purchased it.

I never tried evoscan, but it look more difficult to use.

But for a cheaper budget (under 100$)just buy a obd scan to read/erase your cel code.

I'm not going to debate Ecmlink vs. anything with you... rather pointless and off topic.

But, regardless that is still additional cost and the OP doesn't have a ECU that can be converted.

Also for less then $100 they can have full data logging capabilities at Very fast rates with EVOscan between $50-$80 tops.

Either way the car could very well be a GS so it doesn't really matter. Their best best is to just go get it pulled for free as said...

Where is stamp located at on block i cant see it from top and how can i tell tbh its got stock turbo set up and title doesnt specify but it does say 98 mitsubishi eclipse on it LOL

My parents have an obd2 i can borrow so ill scan with that

Which side of the engine bay is then engine on? If its on the right when looking at it its a turbo if its on the left its non turbo. Or you could look for the turbo hanging off the bottom of the exhaust manifold. Im gonna guess its a non turbo if you dont know...

Its got the turbo the bov and the stock intercooler located on passenger side in the vent no need to be rude. Guy said it was a gsx when i bought it so i was trying o find out how to tell if it really is a gsx or if its a gst

im not sure if a gsx works the same as the 420a but with my car i can check the cel codes on the dash. if i turn the key over 3 times and the leave it on it will flash the check engine light in sequences and it will read off numbers with how many times it flashes. does anyone know if this is the same way for the gsx? i never use a scanner and i get all my cel codes just fine with converting them over on a chart

you need to do some serious research sorry LOL a gst is just front wheel drive and a gsx is all wheel drive. look under the car for a driveline...

The GSX and GST have the same engine so reading the codes will be the same regardless. If your curious as to whether it's a GST or GSX, just look for a driveshaft under the car.

Sweet so it is a gsx there is a drive shaft so the guy even tho was a tweaker wasnt lying and i had done my research just didnt research how to tell the difference im sorry and i pulled my cel code its a bad o2 sensor thanks and ill get my info updated also so my car will be available

i recommend since you just got the car took look over every little thing top to bottom on the car. if you got it cheap there could be something wrong. and im not sure why it didnt say on the title what the car is, most titles will say what the model is right on the title. at least mine always has and i have had 3 different eclipse's.

Ya i got a killer deal i traded my hatch and 800$ my hath need some work but guy wanted it

my buddy had a gsx he got pretty cheap later he found out the axle seal was leaking for a while and the tranny ate itself and its a pain to put a new one in. on top of that the turbo was going out then it was the transfer case. no one took care of the gsx he got and it ended up costing him big time.

Ya i kno for a fact axles are goin but my buddy looked at turbo and its good my mechanic gonna have car for couple days to go through it
