Causes for blue smoke when warm?

I'm about to go look at an eclipse to replace my Talon (which runs fine, but insurance is giving me $ from an accident). The eclipse I'll be looking at supposedly smokes blue(ish) only when warm. That is about all I could get out of the guy. I have ideas and could search for more, but I'm looking for as much of a comprehensive list on what to check when I look at this car.

Obviously I'm going to do a compression test, check for turbo shaft play, and have a friend watch the tail pipe while I drive (to see if it's all the time, WOT, at shifts, etc.)

What else should I be checking. I need to make a list, because I always forget these things when I'm looking.

*edit* I assume the smoking is pretty severe, because he listed it as 'runs, but bad engine.'

L.O.L., I know that. I'm more interested in what may be causing the car to burn oil, what I can check and what will need to be fixed before driving it.

My assumption by his vague description is bad rings.

Could be a bad turbo (I'm hoping for this one )

Bad valve guides.

Maybe he didn't even mean out of the exhaust, maybe it's leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold...

Anyway, what else should I check/look for?

Compression and a wet test will tell you if it's rings. Generally, smoke on acceleration is rings or turbo seals and on deceleration, it's valves or valve stem seals.

Let us know what you find when you see it first hand,

Sounds good. So it's either a basic rebuild, head rebuild or turbo. I can manage those.

I'll let you know with pictures. If there are no other problems I'll probably be buying it!

*edit* I have to say, though, I think it's strange for serious smoke at 102,000 miles. Oh well.
