Hello fellow dsmers!

First things first.... I am new to forums in general so please forgive me if I make a post mistake. However I am not new to turning wrenches.
background on the car, she's a 1992 talon tsi awd. I bought her as basically a shell with an engine nothing else. I have searched high and low and put in many hours to put it back to oem interior/repaired stock driveshaft/ 4bolt rearend and complete stock suspension/ engine was a basket case when I got it. Basically anything that had fluid was leaking and I replaced all the gaskets top to bottom had the engine running and idling great would rev strong. Mod list that came with the car when I bought it(car came with brand new aftermarket parts in the packaging)
list as follows:
-hks bov
-fmic w/long route piping
-fuel pressure regulator(no name)
-aluminum radiator w/dual fans
-stock 14b turbo with zero shaft play
-gauges
Long story short once the car drove down the road for the first time after about a block the transmission was shot not shifting at all into second.
Among that the water pump sprung a leak. So I bought a new clutch kit(hks stage 2) and a used transmission and matching transfer case(23 spline).
So i yanked the engine(2nd time out of the car) installed the new clutch and trans. I also replaced the timing belt/waterpump(oem)
All the pulleys and new oem hydraulic tensioner.(gates kit from extremepsi).
I checked the timing marks at least 10times, by placing the engine at TDC and rotating the engine 6 times and checking to see if the marks all line back up perfectly! And they did! I also did the same amount of checking to make sure the hydraulic tensioner was in spec with a mic and a 5/32 drill bit. The engine sat for multiple days and I checked the timing marks over multiple days before I put the engine back in the car. I started the car for the first time it ran for 10seconds really rich and will not start since!
I have checked and triple checked all the wiring and all the connections all the vac lines. I cannot get her going!

Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Thanks

So when my engine cranks over I get about 5-7psi on boost gauge and I get about 17-20psi on the oil pressure gauge, I've check over all of the vac lines(brand new), I checked every electrical connection, I just can't seem to get her going? It's getting plenty of fuel ( plugs are soaking wet with gas and fouled), I checked the timing marks again and they all line up perfectly! Maybe computer issue? I smelled to see if it was burnt but smells okay and nothing leaking inside when I take off cover. She's got me twisted up like a pretzel with no hot cheese to dip it in!
IM STUMPED!! Haha

Are you getting spark? If your plugs are fuel fouled, you may have a bad coil pack. Check that and the wiring for it.

Might want to make sure your oil isn't getting saturated with fuel too just to be sure.

I'd check the CAS or the ignition transistor. Pull apart the cas and see if there's moisture in it. Also check the plug going to the transistor as well. The wiring gets old and brittle over time due to all the heat they are exposed to, and being over 20 years old. I had a wire break at the plug when I was doing a motor swap in my old 90 Laser. Took me forever to hunt down and felt pretty stupid when found it.

Well so far I checked to see if I'm getting spark, pulled no 1 plug out touch it to metal ground had my wife crank the key, wah lah Sparks like a fire cracker!!
I will have to dig out my Haynes manual and find the transistor . Maybe bad cas but it ran before very well so maybe in the wiring. Thanks for the suggestions

It would be nice if someone local would help you with spare parts. That way you could eliminate a few things like the coil, transistor, ecu, cas etc... I would try testing these thing one at a time, process of elimination! Good luck sometimes it helps to just walk away and come back with some fresh eyes to catch small things you might have missed.

Well after checking the CAS for moisture and pulling apart wiring harness to check for broke brittle wires and found nothing.

While in the midst of wire hunting I noticed the smell of fuel that smelled well varnished. Pulled off the line before the FPR and cranked over the key, what came out looked somewhat like iced tea! My fault for assuming that 7 month old fuel with additive treatment wouldn't varnish that bad that fast.

Warning to anyone that uses the sea foam fuel treatment... Stuffs garbage
