So I'm in the middle of installing a new horn on my 1990 Plymouth laser RS turbo and it makes creeking noise. Its jacked up so I get nervous and move my head out from under but the car stays put so I assumed it was the strut. Well when standing in front of the car I hear it again and it came from....bad ears but I'd like to say from the front center of the car. \/ 30 degree area looking slightly between battery and engine. So....like from the passenger side of the battery to the throttle cable, not the wire. Where the wire comes out. I heard metallic or even static crackling. I have absolutely no idea what it could be since I've never heard such a noise from a car before. Not entirely sure if someone can help, but any opinions or ideas would be lovely. I just hope its not that radio thing that stores energy about to explode

Bet you have bad ball joints.

Put a floor jack under the center support beam and lift up the front end where the tires are barely off the ground to get the weight off the frame. Take a rod and wedge it between the lower arm and ground and raise up on the rod. If you got some play when the arm comes up before resistance is felt ... bad ball joints.

They will creak on you when all the grease has been gone due to age.

It didn't come from the axle. It came from between the battery and the intake manifold. It was like static or a metallic clicking. And this was when the car had the drivers side up on a jack

WTF!! then wouldn't that mean either its not grounding correctly. Or the alternator is pushing slightly too much electricity back into the system so it's jumping like discharge?

was key in the ignition? On or off?the idle air control can make all kinds off noises if the ignition was on.
Or maybe an abandoned alarm?
Had engine compartment or the car been washed recently?

The key was out. To my knowledge it doesn't have an alarm being from the 90s and there's no horn under the battery tray like the 2g. And no wetness.

I found the problem. It was grounding. On the -battery clamp a few things are held together and the bolt was really lose. I'm starting to hate the PO.
