    since i bought the car, i have to feed it gas in order for it to start. otherwise, it will not start. the other day on my way home, i pressed the clutch, and the car died. i fired it up, everything ran good, until i pressed the clutch again, once again the car died. i let it sit over night and the next morning i tried firing it up and it would start then die. in order to keep it running i would have to keep pressing the gas. i was told it could be the fuel pump , but also a number of other things, anybody else have a similar problem?

    I had similar problem. Would run like 3-5secs and them die. Ended up being my cas.

    my shop has a vw golf gti doing the same thing, me & my boss are gonna start running a fuel pressure test then clean the air filter & maf, then we're gonna run a fuel pressure test right after.
    i feel it may have something to do with fuel pressure, he feels its in the air intake system.
    i've worked on cars since '07, he's done it his whole life (his father owned a service station before a fatal car crash that took his father's life, so my boss grew up around cars & took a liking to 'em early in life).

    tomorrow i'll see who's right.

    ramble is over...anyways, try cleaning the air filter & maf, it may help & never hurts to clean up a part.

    Test fuel pressure at rail. Your fuel pressure regulator may be leaking.

    i had two 420a before my tsi when i ran to this problem i had changed the cas also on my manual 420a the same thing happened when my tps sensonr went bad. one thing not sure if its been posted most like yes. your tps sensor harness combines with other wire sets under the intake pipe by egr pipe. a well know issue with 420a cars. make sure the looms and wires are not melted, spliced as this can cause a short and fry your ecu. did twice on me before shop noticed it. they move and secure the wires away from the egr pipes to prevent melting after the ran and souder up some new wires for me and new ecu.

    could be your fuel pump,fpr or your injectors maybe
    or maybe theres a vacum hose disconnected..

    Jus replaced the sensor & fuel pump and it still did the same. The next day it would just crank but wouldn't start

    Get the basics covered, Check for spark and check for fuel injector pulse. Good luck!

    The 3 things a motor needs to run is- fuel, spark, compression. I would check to make sure your FPR is not leaking as others have suggested. Your fuel filter could be clogged, or your fuel pump could simply be on it's way out. I worked on a Chevy Blazer that wouldn't run unless you gave it gas. Replaced the fuel pump and it ran like brand new afterwards. I would also check to make sure that your ignition system is in good condition. You may also have a rather large vacuum leak that is just too far beyond what the computer can deal with.
    I would say to check your idle speed control motor (ISC) but I personally don't run one, and have no problems.

    After a little more investigation, i found the fuel filter was clogged, and needs replacement. Thanks for the help.

    Turns out after all the trouble it gave me, the timing belt tensioner broke. Causing it to skip a few teeth. Leading to some broken valves. & idk how but the cams got pretty messed up too. Currently down for a rebuild. Thanks for the help guys
