searched and couldnt find a decent answer. car is a 95 tsi awd. i was driving home last night and i was coming up to a stop sign and all of the sudden the rpms drop and it shuts off. i start the car back up and drive away fine but if i let off the gas it dies. i checked the couplers and they are fine. maybe fuel related or not getting air? i dont really know. i started it today and it tried to idle then shut off. i pulled it in my garage and and it smells really rich and pretty much ran like shit

i'd check your biss screw and see if you can turn your idle up. or else you idle positioning sensor could be bad like mine. only other thing i can think of is that a vacume line came off like my friends subaru.

Although turning your BISS apparently fixed it, I'd still check the ISC (idle speed control) motor in your throttle body. What you described is CLASSIC symptom of dead ISC motor, and those ISC motors seem to die quite often. In the past 190K miles I've had to change my ISC motor about 4 times....

With a multimeter you can check the coil resistances and the FAQ has good documentation of how you check them.

On the other hand, I learned left foot braking the first time my ISC motor died. I needed to brake with my left foot while keeping the engine running with my right foot on the gas pedal as I come to a stop--a useful skill in autocrossing. :)

ok i feel dumb now. it was the biss the whole time now its just fine. and yes the bov is recircuated.
