I was driving the gst last night and pulled into a gas station and noticed that my temperature gauge was maxed out...I quick cut the car off opened the hood and it was barely warm under there. so i went back in the car and the temperature had gone back to normal so i started it up again, after about 30 seconds it heated up again so i cut it off...looked and it was out of antifreeze and i dont know how that happened because it had been sittin in my garage for about a month...put more antifreeze in it and it never heated up all the way home. Any ideas on what problem this might be? I checked the oil and there wasnt any water in it...

Did you check the coolant level before you took it out after it sitting for a month? Check the hoses, they might have cracked or something from sitting. Also, is it the stock rad in it?

Yea, I was gonna say if it was the stock rad they have a rubber seals that can dry up.

Sounds like it may be just a small coolant leak. Just make sure that it isn't pushing coolant out of the overflow bottle. That signifies major problems.

This is what I did and it worked!:
Start the car with out the rad cap and let it reach op temp.
Turn the heater to full blast, refill if nesessary, let it idle for like 3-5 mins.
Turn the car off and put the cap on.
Drive again and see that happens
I read something about a valve in your heater core and the only way to open it is by turning the heater on... maybe there is a air bubble in your core.

let us know if that helped.

If that does not solve it I would start with replacing the thermostat.

97-gst my best bet is that you are still on 7 bolt.
Turn the car on and check the lower hose once it gets to op temp, if the top hose is freaken hot and the bottom is cold, then your thermostat is not working properly. Do that first before the "air bubble mod". :D
