Hah. One thing at a time, don't you think? ROFL

What kind of ECU does your car have? Are there two plugs on it or one?

i cant when exactly it cuts off i'll be driving and it just does no matter how fast im going what rpms im at or gear it sucks because i have to pull over everytime it does i havent driven the car since as for the ecu where do i look to find what kind it is? sorry really new to dsm was recently a honda/acura person until i got my hands on this talon

sorry took me a while to respond been out of town and the cars been sitting home =( but will check tomorrow morning what kind of ecu it is pretty sure its a stock one though ppl just tell me to swap the 420a for a 4g63 but idk if thats possible for my car or what not but i really want to get this running!!

While anything is possible, the chances of you swapping a 420A for a 4G63 fall deep into the realm of "improbable". When people are telling you to swap for a 4G63, I think they mean for you to sell this car and buy one that was factory turbocharged. Luckily for you, you found this forum, and that kind of attitude is highly frowned upon around here.

Get back to us when you figure out what ECU you have, we can give better advice from there.

yea thats what i figured i mean ive heard the 420 can push out awsome power if you do it right sooooo while i find out what ecu it is tomorrow morning any tips on how i should start to build mine to acheive that 450 mark i got a 1000 to start out and what a good suspension bc i was looking at the megan racing coilovers thanks guys

I had the same problem with my car, it's the ECU it's either burnt out inside or too old, i had to buy a new one. Exactly how u explained it same happened to my car. Going 80mph and it just dies.. power steering gone no life in the engine but lights and music is still one. It's the ECU, and whats happening is it's wiring INSIDE is not connected all the way and sometimes it re-tap's it'self for it to restart it. I bought my ECU from a website and they REBUILD ECU's for OEM for cars. heres the website. and MAKE SURE YOU ASK FOR A MANUAL OR AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION or you're check engine light will stay on and you're battery light. hopefully you're having the same problem as i did before.

Auto Computer Exchange - Auto Computer Superstore - Cheaper than dealers and mechanics.

you can call them or order it online, you're choice. i SAY do both. and make sure you get the right one.

yea thats what someone told me the guy before me didnt take care of this car at all and a lot of it i had to replace as is so should i stick with the ecu i have and just shipp it off or should i get a better one since i want to go for a higher build

took out the ecu 4651711-2 64490 2 are the numbers i find on one side no clue how to tell what ecu it is...

find steve here on dsm tuners, he does great e.c.u rebuilds but just so u know i had the same problem i posted on this thread but i guess one of the site moderators didnt like me posting a thread and deleted it but anyways back on topic, i had my e.c.u rebuilt by steve and it didnt solve the issue it supposedly might be my cas i will install the new one tonight and let u know, but im not sure if the 420a has a cas.

any tips on the build for me guys? and getting a new ecu soon so hopfully it fixes the problem

Try the guide here: Tech Guide: 2G 420A Power Upgrades - DSMtuners

Hope it helps.

Be sure to sort out the problem(s) before you go spending tons of money on upgrades. I'd recommend handling some of the routine stuff before you start buying up all kinds of parts too (timing belt, new plugs and coil, etc), get the car running 100% before you start building it up, otherwise you will end up with a broken down car that you wasted too much money upgrading. Once the car is running good, then its up to you really, biggest decision will probably be whether or not to go turbo.

You should have tested everything else before throwing money at it. Just cause a few guys say "it's your ecu, it's your ecu" does not mean that it is. Are you throwing a CEL(check engine light) I would've started there. It could have been any numbers of things. If you just want to replace it, look into MegaSquirt. You'll need it for your build.

As for your build...You'll have to build the bottom end and put a turbo on to achieve that much horse. You'll also want to look into getting an LSD to be able to put it to the ground properly. It all depends on how deep your pockets are. There's plenty of things you can spend your money on, though, so I'd try to stay within a budget more than a horse rating. Start a new thread if you want to get into an in-depth conversation about it.

There are no deleted posts in this thread... however, please familiarize yourself with the fourth rule to read before posting: "Don't try to help if you don't know the answer - bad advice is often worse than no advice (no "I think" or "I guess" or "I've heard")." The 420A and 4G63 are vastly different in certain respects, the ECU and EFI system being two of them.

The 420A ECU cannot be rebuilt, it is encapsulated in a thick layer of potting material.

This question is too vague to be definitively answered by any of our members, and even if it weren't too vague, it belongs in a separate thread. There is tons of information available on DSMtuners to get you started, all you need to do is search for it.

yea i have done the basic routine on the car new oil plugs spark plugs filters gaskets some new oil lines and all that my car is already turboed its alright but no where near where i want it or ive heard it being capable of. as for my problem ive changed the battery coil pack and alternator checked the distributor and all of those were fine so the only thing left i think is the ecu. I thought my ecu could be rebuilt? If not what ecu do you recommend to get since my car is turboed just any ecu and plug it up orrr???? and i got money its just idk where to start and ive done a lot of research but everyone seems to somewhat know what there tlking about already i dont so im trying to learn as quickly as i can so i just need a good start to where i should go to start building my car and i agree with the lsd transmission but thats going to be after i get the motor atleast at the 350 mark thanks for all your help guys

My car used to stall while driven also.As soon as the car got hot, every thing would just shut down for no reason. When it cooled down it would start right up again. For a long time I could never figure it out.It turned out to be a very simple fix.The cables going to my starter were corroted.I took them all off and cleaned every thing up,and I never saw the problem again.I'm not saying that it is the same thing. But I would spend some time to check all the wirering carefully before spending money on something that you don't need.I'm famous for that!

thanks im deff gonna look into the wireing ive done almost everrything else checked vaccum stuff battery coil back altornator so hopefully if i ge tthe new ecu it will go away haha thinking about selling it to get a awd car anyone know any good deals? can trade and put cash on top if its worth it
