Cant get Drive/ Flex plate to bolt to torque converter PLease help!

Okay guys,

I have a 97 eclipse gst auto. I just put in a new motor, but I can't get the flex plate to bolt up to the tranny. The plate holes are too far above the converter holes like the plate arms are slightly too short. Anyone know if there are different flex plates on different year 2g motors? I will post pics if need be
 
Do you mean that the flex plate is spaced too far away from the TC or that the arm length is too short (length from crank center to holes) to line up with the TC bolt holes? The driveplate adapter (spacer) could be the issue if it's the first case; could be installed on the wrong side of the flex plate or not at all. There is also a certain amount of in/out movement that you should be able to get from the TC floating on the splines that will allow you to slide it towards the flex plate for bolting up.

I looked in CAPS and there is no difference in part numbers for the 2G FWD/AWD TC or flex plate for the 4G63 cars. If there's an issue with the wrong length on the arms, you've got something that doesn't belong on the car anyway. The PN for the 2G 4G63 flexplate is MD762473 (there's a second PN but it was superceded by this one in early 96) and the torque converter is MD755239. Good luck with it! :D
 
the arms are too short by maybe an 8th of an inch. The only thing I can see to do is take the motor and tranny out agan and swich the plate with the one from the old motor... I was just trying to avoid that. I dont understand why it would be different and by such a small amount.

The new motor is either a 95 or 96 (had different CPS) so is it possible at has the other flexplate with this superceded PN?
 
That is possible, although the old part should be interchangeable with the new according to CAPS. The old PN is MD754227 and it was used on cars built from Jan. of 94 - the 3rd week of Aug. of 96. The other PN (MD762473, which is listed as superceding the above number but also being substitutable) was used from Sept. 96 - on for 4G63 AT cars.
