Cant figure it out!

This all started a few weeks ago when i heard a low tone tapping noise coming from the front passenger side wheel. As i drove around for a couple more days it began to get louder. So i thought it might be the wheelhub bearing or axle, so i replaced both! and it did not fix any thing!! i still here this tapping noise coming from the same spot. The noise gets louder and faster as the rpms go up. I have checked everything under the car and i just cant figure it out any more and im about to get pissed and sell it ### iv been through a lot with this car. By the way its a 98 eclipse gsx.

yes i have and it does not make that sound...

is it the splash liner in the wheel well rubbing against something when you are moving?

how about a rock in the tire?

Grab the brake dust shield and bend that bi*** in toward the trans and see if your noise goes away. Also check the rotor to see if it may somehow be cracked.

i would say it just sounds like a flat-spotted tire, but if you changed rims and tires, its not that. if you havent changed the tire itsself, pull out the spare, put it on, and drive down the road & back. if you have changed the tire, take it off that side, and take a flat ruler and check to make sure that your roters and pads are in balance. if its not that, something is just loose as hell

I put new tires and rims on, i checked the brakes and pads. the car only does this while driving, when its in place and running it does not make the noise.

gotta be something loose, check all your panels around the wheel, push them every way possible, cause thats gotta be it

when you say "RPM" i assume you mean speed and wheel RPM... do you feel any vibration in the steering wheel while you drive? how about when you hit the brakes, any vibration in the brake pedal? how about when you turn left or right, does it get louder or go away?

this may help, something similar happened to me i will hear a cliking noise but i could not figure it out i checked everything and nothing it turns out that my tranny bolts were loose and that was the end of that problem it could be something as simple as that.

So you did have it on stands and in gear? Are you sure it's not from the tranny?

have you checked your ball joints? an are you sure its on that side of the car?

the noise is the same whether i turn left, right or go straight. The noise is present when im in gear cruising or in neutral cruising, but not at a dead stop. Could it possibly be the tranny and if it was, what could it be??

Ok answer a few questionsn and be honnest? how many miles ? what kind of clutch? do you beat on it alot and if so how bad? it could be a few things if its the trans. could be throw out bearing. possibly a finger broke of the clutch or the springs and are bouncing around in there.

127,000 miles on it, i do not beat on it, i take it to the track once a month and probably make 3 passes.
Its also a stock clutch, installed about a year ago.

in gear or in neutral coasting and the noise is the same.
Increases with speed
You have already replaced spindle and axle-

Not much left, Sounds like something in the drive train, drive shaft - check your ujoints, transfer case or tranny itself.....
But check EVERYTHING for rubbing first.

oem clutch and iv been running 15 pounds on a 16g

id say the springs in the clutch poped out and are bouncing around or you broke a finger but i doubt that. time to drop the trans and upgrade the cltuch
