Okay, so my car has a spark problem i believe. it gets a nasty cutout/spark around 5k rpms and will do that in every gear. the plugs have been changed. the coil is fine. the injectors are fine 560' Evo injectors. the fuel pump is fine 255. but it still happens :( i tuned it with the SAFC but its still running like booty. im pulling alot of fuel..the wideband is 10.0 in every gear. at one point i thought the fuel pressure regulator wasnt regulating but its fine. idk what else to look for =/

Im a DSM noob so please be easy with me and not yell at me for not knowing much LOL.
:coy:
Help?

You should really fill out your profile.
Are you on the stock FPR?
What plugs and gap?
Stock or upgraded turbo?
How much fuel are you pulling?
How much boost are you trying to run?

Boost leak tested it and there is no leaks:ohdamn: *siigh*

How much did you pressurize it to, and how long did it hold?

You really need to update your mod list in your profile.

1. Are you still using the stock bov? They tend to leak in the lower-teens of boost.

2. Do you have an adjustable fuel pressure regulator for that fuel pump-have you tested your base fuel pressure?

My TSI did this and I did a boost leak test and could find no leaks. It finally ended up being the intake manifold gasket. Obviously, a leak. But I never found it doing a leak test.

First off 19 psi is more than I would be comfortable with on pump gas. You definitely have a leak somewhere if you are running that boost and pulling that much fuel and still running 10:1. Sounds like a fuel cut issue. I would back the car down to 15-16psi and see if the problem persists. I still stand by it being a boost leak.

Mine was cutting out SOMETIMES. Didnt know if it was a tuning issue. After almost a year of driving it got worse one day. REPLACED coil pack and wham right to 7k on a pull. Something to look into.

I ran 20psi on my 14b with the stock sidemount in 80* weather and only got 4 counts of knock. He should be MORE than fine to run 19psi on 93 all day long.

EDIT: I see you live in AZ. Must suck always having to battle those temps.

Agreed. Next time you do the test pressurize it to 20psi and see how long it holds, just cause you can't hear it doesn't mean it's not there.

My egr valve was stuck open allowing IM pressure to bleed right into the #4 port of the head and out the exhaust manifold. Took me forever to track that one down and I didn't think there was a leak because I sprayed everything and couldn't hear a peep, but my boost gauge wouldn't hold any pressure for more than 3 seconds.

Thanks guys for the replies. Im gonna do another boost leak test and see if i can find something. i also realized today that apparently i have the wrong spark plugs for the car which could cause such a problem. hopefully when i swap them out later, it *might* fix the problem. i'll keep everyone posted.

thanks again!

20 psi on a 14b and 19psi on an EVO 3 is a pretty big jump in airflow. Make sure you get a good set of NGK BPR7ES. I would gap them down to .28" to start with and if there are no problems keep it there.

Did you try replacing the plug wires yet? I had the same problem when i moved from 93 pump east coast fuel to arizona 91 pump and i dont know what happened but my gsx started stuttering everytime it would reach 8+psi. I found my plug wires were arcing and once replaced with new plugs as well did the trick

have no tried that yet. im basically going to keep trying/replacing things till i find the problem..it can also be timing..i hope its not timing LOL.

Im running 25psi on 91 pump with a conservative tune in arizona heat ROFL

I think ive lost 20 lbs just this last summer alone from battling temps. Nothing says you love your dsm when you drive to work everyday in 124* beating sun with your ass stuck to your 2g leather seats and your heat on full blast in your face to overcome the rising coolant temps. Ive learned to carry a change of clothes everywhere i go to overcome the body sweat soaked clothes ROFL

i actually know alot of local dsms who are running 20-24psi all day with no problems. personally, to keep it comfy for me i stay at 18-19.

ROFL ROFL ROFL Very good stuff.

OP I forgot to mention that I didn't see an adjustable fuel pressure regulator in your mod list. Do you not have one? Chances are if you don't that you're overrunning your stock fuel pressure regulator. Not that it should have anything to do with your cut-out problem but just something to think about.

I use to believe the people that said they've ran 255 pumps on stock fpr but after I saw my buddy try it and saw how his car ran like crap I changed my mind.

Either way though it shouldn't affect you while in boost.
