Can I tow my car with the drive shaft removed?

I am about to move from Missouri to CA, halfway across the country. My question is, if I can tow my car on a dolly with the 2 front wheels up, and the 2 rear wheels dragging if I take the driveshaft off? Will it cause any damage to the rear end? Does anybody have any personal experience with this?

btw its a 95 talon awd.

So you taking it completely out?

Or just unhooking it from one end and keeping the other end secured?

I was thinkin about doin this, as I need to tow my car across Illinois. Dont have a trailor.

I'd take it completely off and maybe the t-case too (or cover the end up so crap doesn't get in or drip out) A friend of mine did this with no problems. I guess you could secure it to the car but make sure its tight and not going to rattle free and drag.

I personally use a tow bar for awd cars if I dont want to drag an empty trailer back. Then everything can stay attached. Its been a while since i looked at the drive shaft but if memory serves me right you can take out the 4 bolts off the pinnion and tie up the drive shat out of the way and it should be good to go.

I'm just going to unhook it from the rear end and tie it up out of the way. I don't want to take it completly out, the t-case will probably leak fluid out if I do that and it has the possibility of getting debris in it.

Check out my Avatar. That's me pulling out my driveshaft on the side of the interstate when my head gasket blew. :thumb: Most of the transfer case fluid came out when I pulled the driveshaft out.
