I was not sure how to title this but I am wondering if its ok to put back on a 14b with the mods I have on my car now

I have a 90 gsx and I just had my Ported 18g go out I cannot find a good turbo in my price range anywhere, No time to wait for ebay cause its my dd now here is my mod list will a 14b do ok

Gm maf and translator, Full 3" exhaust including o2 housing, Fmic, 650cc Injectors, 2g Exhaust manifold, Walbro 255 Fuel pump, Balance shaft removal, Turbo xs mbc At 15psi

I have lots more done to the car but the other mods wouldnt affect the turbo operation. Im just curious if a 14b will hold up to 15psi and stay healthy for a few months or will I notice the lack of flow from the 14b I have heard alot of people say the 14b doesnt flow well at 15psi, Just curios thanks

As long as the 14b is in good shape..no shaft play, not blowing smoke...it will be fine. A 14b flows great at 15psi...you could even bump it up to 18-20 psi with your mods and a tune.

Thanks, I have looked all over the internet and It was always a conflicting answer about the 14b but as long as it works for now and I can save up Im happy

cool the plan was to get my re-tune done after I put the new turbo on it,

There are only a few mods that would be a hindrance coming from a large turbo to a small turbo; cams, intake manifold, FMIC (large cores), IC pipe size.

Ok I have a Evo 9 Fmic and 2 and half in ic piping, No cams and factory I/M so I should be ok in that area, Thanks for the quick replys, You guys have helped out alot already

Yeah all that's fine. With some of the larger setups, IC pipes will get upgraded to 3" or larger and as well have a massive core. All of that volume is fine on a turbo that will produce a large amount of airflow but when you hook up a smaller flowing turbo it's like trying to inflate a hot air balloon with a hair drier.

Cams are all based for power band so if you used a turbo that had a power band in the high RPM range it may not work well for a turbo that it's range is much lower.

So you are planning on retuning when you do swap in the 14b?

If you have the right mods to tune you should be able to bump up from 15 psi, and tune accordingly..

Going from an 18g to a 14b you will notice a flow difference..But bumping up the psi should help out a bit..But you wont see nearly the power of 15psi on the 18g as you will at 18ish psi on the 14b..

Ok that makes sense, I have a friend that has a 14b in good shape no shaft play no smoke but it needs ans exhaust housing, Would the exhaust housing from my 18g fit on the 14b

Itll work no problem, i believe the exhaust housing will work as well. re-tuning is the only thing i can think of that will need changed

I got the 14b on today, Im running 15psi and wow the power difference is insane I did not think I would lose this much power My car feels lke it has no pull now,

Its running great and the 14b spools actually really quick and holds 15psi perfect but damn I lost alot of power I cant really feel the turbo spool up I know it wont compare to my 18g in any way but should I go ahead and bump up the boost to 18 or 20 with the retune
