I want to get rid of the stock exhaust system on my car and replace it with a nice aftermarket one. I like the Apexi N1 systems, but everywhere I look they only sell cat-back systems.

Is there anywhere I can buy a full turbo back apexi n1 system? If I just buy the cat-back, what else do I need to make it full?

Thanks

If you get the apexi exhaust you might have fitment issues. The full exhaust is catback plus downpipe. Most downpipes eliminate the cat which will make you fail emissions. I run Japanimportshop eBay exhaust and I'm very satisfied.

Also, does that downpipe come with a highflow cat? I need to be able to pass emissions. This car is my DD

Did you look at the link he posted at all? RRE offers their downpipes in short and long configurations. The short ones have space for a catalytic converter OR a test pipe. The long ones eliminate the cat. With that in mind you need the 1g AWD short which is part number DP1G-AS ($230) and the 1g AWD cat which is part number DP1G-CAT ($190).

Here are some other options for downpipes (none of which eliminate the cat and thus will require either a catalitic converter OR a test pipe to connect to the cat-back exhaust system):
Punishment Racing FULL 3" Stainless $125
Apexi N1 2.5-3" Stainless $219
Megan Racing 2.5-3" Stainless $165

Should I buy an aftermarket o2 sensor housing?
That is up to you. For maximum flow and to help prevent boost creep you can port the stock housing or upgrade to a higher flowing aftermarket unit. If you plan on using an external wastegate in the future then I would hold off on the o2 sensor housing until then.

Most downpipes eliminate the cat which will make you fail emissions.
As you can see from what I posted, most 1G downpipes do NOT eliminate the option for a cat.

You can have an exhaust shop fab you up a full 3" exhaust with virtually 0 bends in it for $400 or less...ever look into that? If you wanted a muffler on it you can pick up a megan muffler off ebay for about $70, sounds deep and aggresive then you have a full turbo back exhaust for under $500...

Thanks a lot for the help everybody!

Dert, I have not thought of that but it sounds like a very good idea. I definitely think I'll look into that first, Thanks!

DOHC, one question. Why did you recommend the 1g parts over the 2g? My car is a 2g Talon. Just curious, thanks :)

WTF
Because no where in this thread do you mention owning a 2g and you profile says '91 GSX. I'm not a mind reader.

Oh, right....duh.

Sorry about that. I own a '95 talon awd now. I've tried to change my car on here, but for some reason it says I don't have permission to do so. Lame.

RRE's downpipes are wider at the beginning that Apexi N1 downpipes, at least for 2Gs... I don't know about 1Gs. Some people don't care (or know) but prefer to go for a Full Apex-i system anyways.

Since you need to pass emissions, you can either get RRE's short downpipe and their cat to bolt on to the N1 or just get the long downpipe and have a cat welded at your local exhaust shop.

What he ^^ said. :thumb:

One thing i would worry about with the apex n1 is the aluminized backside of the muffler. Mine rotted out after about 18 months and have known several others with this issue. If it rains or snows in your area you need to go with a muffler that is all stainless. Otherwise it will rust and weaken the metal and eventually blow out at the weakest point. Just some information to think about!

This is just what I was going to mention to the op. The Apex n1 muffler will not survive NJ winters. I know this from first hand experience, I have an Apex n1 sitting in my shed right now with a huge hole in it.

n1 all the way
good quality and fitment

As the post right before mine indicates, An Apexi N1 system is not considered to be "good", nor "high-end".

This supposed 3" system necks down to smaller than 2" in some locations. I'd do some serious research rather than just buying the name you know.
Buy something else.

Straight pipe to a magnaflow muffler is going to be my next exhaust. I have tried a couple different ones and have found neck downs and problems with most of them. I want to try the thermal exhaust as I have heard many good things about it!
