I have a 6 bolt out of a old car i bought off of someone its the stock motor i just want to know if i can get the year of the motor with casting number of the block.

most of the blocks has the v.I.N embeded on them its 17 characters of numbers & letters # 10 character is the year will be a letter here is a guide k is 1989,L is 90, M is 91,N is 92, P is 93,R is 94 S is 95 hope this helps

I am going to look at a rebuildable core motor. My engine is a turbo 4g63T from a 95 Talon TSI. The block casting # is RVO280. Should the casting # be the same if it's a 7 bolt turbo?
Is there anything else I should look for to make sure it's a turbo block/head? Manifolds are off so it's just a long block. I'm new to the DSM engine so I am not really sure what to look for. Thanks for the help.

I have a block from an Eclipse. I do not know which block it is. It is just a bare block and has this casting on the side of it. (front: XJ1852) (back: 3K) Anyone know if this is a 1G or 2G engine? I do know it is a 7 bolt but that is all I know. It's too late to call the dealership also.

I called 2 Mitsu Dealers in California, and someone at SBR and no one had any way to figure out if it was a 1g or 2g 7bolt except for trying to use a crank from a 1g, or 2g. What a weird situation.

I guess no one knows a way. What a weird thing, to put a "Serial Number" or "Identification Number" on an engine and not be able to tell what it is from it. *sigh*

for the 4G63, there is a flat section on the right side of the block under the exhaust mani that gives the block and serial number..

The 4G37 is this flat section on a shelf right below the head with the same markings.

7 bolts came out in mid 1992 and onwards. Thus it could be either 1G or 2G.

Are you kidding me? I know where the Engine Serial Number is... I even posted it in my original post... I want to know if there is a way to know what YEAR/GENERATION this engine is based on the serial I have.

If it's cast on the block, you're only looking at the foundry control number. It's tracking for the metallurgical batch, or specific foundry, and will have shit-all to do with which engine it is. The serial number is stamped onto the block.
Try posting some pictures.

There is a flat spot that says... 4G63 and then has XJ1852 under it on the front of the block. It isnt "cast" into the block, its stamped.

Not sure if it will help much but here is some pics that i just took maybe you can be able to compare it whit your block.
This is a 1990 6bolt jdm block hope it helps.
I can also run out side and take pics of my 2g 7bolt block if you need them.
Back of the block.

Ok here is my 7bolt block that came of my 97gst
As you can see in the front of the 7bolt block there's a water line in the upper left that comes out of there for the turbo. the 6bolt does not have that water feed.

My block looks like your 97 block, it also has the 3K at the bottom like yours but my serial is far different. I just want to know what year my block is, I'm sure now it is a 2G but just need to know if its a 95-97 or 98-99

I don't know how we could have been misled.
