Can bumpers be repaired?

Someone ran into me this morning and I am looking for some advice on how to fix this. I'm worried about availability of the Talon 2gb rear bumpers and the aftermarket ones are alway so flimsy.

Can you still get these from the dealer? Also, can they be repaired?

Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

I know that you can plastic weld it back together. I took a paint and body class at a local community college and we did some things like that. Time consuming though. You would probably just be better off getting a new one.

Yeah there insurance is going to cover it, I just don't want a flimsy aftermarket bumper.

if insurance is going to cover it then just take it to a body shop and have them decide what to do, thats what insurance is for.

a good autobody shop can fix that. My suv got hit by a limo bus and I could not tell it was repaired. They repaired a 2 piece bumper that was all ripped, dented and tore up.

That can be repaired, but you are running the risk of it cracking in the future. I have never heard that the aftermarked rear bumpers are any different than the OEM ones. The bumpers have been discontinued from dealerships. Your best bet is to try to find a used one on here if you are worried about an aftermarked bumper being cheap. There is a guy parting out a 97 TSi in the classifieds right now. I would ask him.

Yeah I would go with a new bumper. I had my front bumper repainted and it already cracked in one spot. Too many layers of paint on a bumper and it's going to crack.

The insurance should cover that. I think it you would really put up a great amount of money for that. it's such a headache for car owners to have problems like that. That's why when I bought a new car, I make sure that I bought also a bumper cover for it. Good luck on that mate! I hope it gets fixed soon!

I found a good used bumper locally! It has some scratches but no cracks or pushed in sections. I may get another bumper shipped to keep around as a backup though.

I will post some pictures of the repair once it is done.

Thanks guys.
