So I drive a 98 GS that i am converting into a turbo. The engine is fairly well built and I have decided to upgrade as much as i can on the engine before going turbo. Currently has eagle rods and JE 8:1 pistons. Next week I am getting a new intake manifold and 60mm TB.

However, after that I really want to get my Camshafts upgraded because I love the sound and I've read I can get some lower rpm torque gains. I was thinking getting stage 3 but I have read some places that the stock springs will work with that just fine, others say anything higher than stage 2 needs a new valvetrain. Can anybody drop some expertise on the situation for me?

Try not to talk in "stages". That's more a marketing ploy/descriptor. If you are going turbo, I would recomend the Crower 2's NA. It will give you a little extra pop while NA and it works well with turbo.

What intake manifold are you getting? What turbo set-up are you thinking about?

Sorry, I don't know a whole a whole lot about them or the sizings and whatnot. The only one i can find is OBX which is.. cheap. I considered getting it ported but I kinda like the fact that the OBX have a shinier more "show" quality look to them, even though its not going to be a show car. Turbo setup is still up in the air, I would have to go into all the details for the entire project. But i basically want to get dual side exhaust on it, possibly twin turbo as well but i haven't decided if i wanted to blow the extra money on twin turbo, thats alot of customizing. I want around 22psi 400ish HP Still going to play with the low compression ratio. If you wanna throw any of your thoughts at it go for it.

But back to the matter at hand, so getting a new valvetrain isnt required with crower 2 or similar rated camshafts?

Oh but if i dont go twin turbo im probably going with the treadstone turbo kits, Everybody says to go hahn but it doesnt really scream yes at me.

Stay away from obx. Their quality is terrible. I have seen one that is custom made and bolts to the stock lower runners. Unfortunately those are about our best option as far as I am aware.

Somebody told me venom made some but I can only find them for the 4g63. I assumed OBX quality was pretty bad just looking at the price.

The OBX is a knock off of the Venom. Don't know if Venom is made anymore.

For the intake, you might want to read through on this;

2GNT.com - OBX_Intake_Install

Not necessarilly a total waste. AMM is certainly a better choice, but much more expensive and longer wait.

If you do decide to go with the OBX, you may want to pm me. I have that one in the write up just sitting around (though I added a spot for a MAP). I would probably sell it.

The more I look around the more people i find saying its much more to have the stock one ported and polished.

but back to the camshafts, with crower 2 the stock valve springs and all that stuff is fine to go with it?
