camshaft seals

I have read several threads that say 2 different things...

I am in need of changing my camshaft seals and maybe a few other seals on that side of the engine...

I have read that you do not...not have to pull out the camshafts to replace the seals but, you just have to take the gears off and the caps closest to the gears and you can just slide off the old and slide on the new.

I have read that you have to pull the camshafts out to do this...

I have a 92 awd laser with a 6 bolt...What will I have to do to get this job done?

You will most likely just need to loosen most of the caps slighlty in order to get any lift on the cam without prying. The cams are obviously pretty ridgid and dont have a whole lot of give. I wouldnt really be concerned with this, by removing the gears your getting into timing so its not like popping the cam caps will really create any work for you.

You DO NOT have to remove the cam. Just the gear. You can remove the cap if you want, but it isn't required.

thank you all for the clarification on this. If I have time to do this myself, will save a good bit of labor as I was told you have to take the cams out....I just wanted to be sure...I can do it myself as long as the car is not going to be down for like...a week or something as I will have to do it in my garage and do not have a lift....If I had a lift, could do it much faster. My job doesnt allow much time to work on it either as I work 12 hour shifts...
