for some reason i cannot turn the camshaft freely when i put a set of cam caps on my rebuilt head from 2 other heads it makes no difference. someone lost the original caps...
i didnt think there was a difference, im stumped on this one? im not really positve what year the head is, but id was pulled from a 91 AWD 5 speed talon. but there definatly isnt 90k on it in fact its almost brand new, so it was replaced at one point.

so are there dirrerences between the caps? are they all different (line bored)? how do i tell what year head this is. it does not have a 2.0L stamped into the spot above the water neck.. g67 is there...

oh man.... maybe someone put an elantra head on a awd turbo car? what other identifying mark are there and where to look, i definaly don't want to use a 124hp head
on a 400hp motor..

HELP :talon:

LOL, Seriously. They might as well ask if you can mismatch main journels. N/A heads are a dime a dozen, they are the same as turbo head if you plan on rebuilding one. If the cam caps were missing, I would have taken it, took the valves, springs, lifters out and found a bare head, or one with bent valves that was complete. Oh ya, the torque on the cam caps are 15ft lbs, and there is a torque sequence.

just for shits I tried bolting a set of mismatched caps onto 1 of my heads and spinning the cams. The cams were very tight so the line hone would definitly need to be done when just swapping caps. :thumb:

I need a 1G head for my 6-bolt rebuild. I found one from Taboo Speed Shop with stainless steel standard size valves with 5-angle job, bronze valve guides, p/p, etc... It doesn't come with cams or cam caps. I don't care about the cams, but I am very concerned about the caps. I know whenever you take them off, you don't ever want to switch them around or anything. If I was to get this head, what extra measures would need to be done to ensure I wouldn't have any problems? Do I just throw a set on there and go? That makes me nervous. Is it even worth it? I plan on using the HKS cam combo, with my stroker shortblock I am in the process of completing. Thanks for any advice.

i would take it to a machine shop and let them check everything out. If they have to they can line bore the head with the new caps.

As far as I know, cam caps are specific not only the order, but specific to each head.
If you want and if you can find loose cam caps, you can take a chance and have a maching shop check the clearances.

I wouldn't even bother with this head unless it is practically given to you. I don't know where you could get caps, but if you can find some the machine shop would have to reduce the size of the caps and then line hone the bores. You should call a machine shop and ask how much they charge, I am sure after you figure the cost of the caps and the machine work it wouldn't be worth it.

I wasn't buying this directly from Taboo Speed Shop, it was an individual who had it. Anyways, thanks for the info - I passed on it.

Hi guys, I got a a 2.0 cylinder head with a mild port and polished job for pretty cheap, the only problem is that the head did not come with the cam caps, the ones that hold down the cam shafts; my question is, can I use the ones from any head? if not what can I do?

Thanks a lot!!

Dont tell me that !!!!! Why is that?

Because they are a matched set from the factory. They were machined together and if you use different caps it will probably be out of round. There are some shops that have the capability to line bore the head, but it's expensive and very very difficult to do correctly. You're better off starting with a new cylinder head.

Any help is welcomed! I have a spare head that's been rebuilded, angled, decked, ported, but I don't have the cam bearing caps :( . Any one know where can I buy some? Or some one selling them? Also, do I have to get them and the head line-bored? It's for some 264cams. Thanks for any replies!

tfoti is right, each head it matched with it's own caps. DO NOT just buy a set and put them one or you'll be one very mad person
