Well I've noticed before and have taken a look lately, there was a tiny bit of oil coming from the cam angle sensor. Does anyone have a part number for the seal? This is on the passengers side of the head, at the back of the valve cover.

MD619648.

I had a leak there with my old Eclipse. The old one was hard and brittle and felt like plastic.

Thanks. Is that easy to replace? I don't want to have to redo my timing from just changing the o ring.

I'm replacing the VC gasket when I do my lifters anyways so I can do it all at the same time.

It's easy and quick. There's just 2 bolts on the cas. It only takes a couple minutes to do. I traced the mounts on the head with a marker, took it off and replaced it in the same spot I removed it from.

Thanks. Ill have a good days worth of work to do when I get my lifters in. Gotta helicoil two of the VC bolt holes too since they're stripped.

CAS o-ring is different between 1g and 2g:

  • 90-94: Part # MD619648
  • 97-99: Part # MD622021
They can be purchased from a number of supporting vendors such as Extreme PSI or JNZ Tuning.

I ran an o-ring from harbor fright 0-ring kit http://www.harborfreight.com/397-piece-metric-o-ring-assortment-67580.html I had it on there for about 3 years now, and so far no leaks.
I have heard of some dsm owners having leaks from using rounded after-market o-rings in place of the oem cas seal, but it's hit and miss and o-ring kit is not that much it's worth a try.

And the CAS o-ring size is P30 (w=3.5mm, ID=29.7mm)

The part numbers are above and I was just fooling with this. Just for anybody finding this thread the p30 o-ring mentioned is for 1g CAS. 2gb CAS doesn't use an o-ring to seal to the head and the actual sensor has a small o-ring. The mount to the head is just a housing and it's sealed OEM with just RTV. Yes that seal can get old and leak but it's just rtv.

Hey, I'm bringing this back up, but are we positive here that the 2G CAS doesn't use an o-ring? I have very little oil residue after driving right under the CAS on the cylinder head surface. I'm wondering/thinking it is actually coming from the CAS. I looked back through my entire build (glad I took pictures of it all) and saw when I removed my CAS housing, attached to the intake cam and in fact had no o-ring on it. I also went back through all my invoices and didn't see any order of an o-ring but did of the triangular gasket that goes between the CAS plate and housing.
