Alright so I have a 95 talon tsi awd. The clutch just went out recently and i just bought a act 2600 clutch in. Now i know this is a no no because of crank walk. My motor has about 15000 miles on a rebuild in which a new top line crank was installed along with the normal rebuild stuff. The cause for the rebuild was due to a a bad rod bearing in the number 3 cylinder. The engine had no other sings of crank walk.

Anyway seeing as the motor is going to be out any way i was wondering what i should do?

should i just go six bolt?
I really don't have the money laying around to build a motor and do the swap.

should i keep this 7 bolt and cross my fingers?
i would like to get another year or to out of this motor but is it worth putting it all back together and having it blow up during the summer

Should i try to get my hands on a 97 1/2+ block?
this is really what i want to do but does anyone know where i can get one?

As you can see i have a couple options. I would really like some input/information on crank walk. everywhere i look people have different view on what actually causes crank walk and how to prevent it

hmm crankwalk you should be worried ...... not really i have a 2600 and 5k thus far no c walk and no im not worried either walk is overrated

The main problem IMO that causes crank walk is the actual crank itself. The cranks wernt harded to right depth and block being harder, guess what gives. Now that topline crank I cant say much about and have no idea what there harded to, but I do know there not forged. What kind of power are we talking about here? If your less than 450 as a round number I think you would be ok with the topline crank Only because Its not walking now. Since you have to motor out, put some arp mains and a "main cap alingment kit" in with a set of acl race bearings. The 7 bolt is a much stronger motor and if built right will last many years.

You should be fine with the 7 bolt. Crankwalk generally shows up at fairly low mileage. You shouldn't have any issues unless you are pushing a decent amount of power through that crank. Although there are a lot of different theories as to why crankwalk happens in our cars, the generally accepted reason I've found is low oil pressure at startup. One of the biggest differences between 6 and 7 bolts is the oil squirters, as well as the lack of a CAS on the 6 bolt. My 7-bolt just ticked over 100k today, stock block, crank still well within tolerance as of 3k miles ago.

well that's reassuring. I'll know more when I get the motor out in december. Its going to get an over hall even if its okay. I want to throw arp head studs in and i have to replace a few thing any way. I do a balance shaft eliminator kit will that have any negative effects on the crank?

Kind of off subject do you guys know the difference if any between the 7 bolt 1g and the 7 bolt 2g block
