The irs is gone and has been replaced with an 8.8

What did you do to the driveshaft in order to run the 8.8? Also, Did you drop any weight goin to the Ford axle?

I still use the driveshaft shop front piece and just had a new u-joint end put on the factory back piece. In all I came out around 100 pounds lighter than it was with IRS. As for tires i run M&H's

Is it a ladder bar, 4 link, or...? We were thinking of dong this with Darrens car but we have not broke any rear ends yet so cant justify it. Have any pics of it?

Edit: DOH, John beat me...

4 link. If you guys do decide to do it it would be well worth the drive up here to have our guy do it. He made jigs off of brads car and did an amazing job on it.

I would agree I don’t think you will find a chassis shop that offers better quality and workmanship.

Ya no doubt! I will let darren know and if we have any issues or if he wants to cut some more weight maybe we will get his info from yall. :thumb:

If I break another rear end I was going to have a chassis shop in Charlotte do mine but if this guy has already done one and the price is right I may reconsider. 24 hours round trip and 2 trips one to drop it off and one to pick it up. Any clue what the pricing is?

Now that's the business right there.:thumb: What gear ratio do you have to run so you're spinning the rears at a different speed than the front?

They run different speeds front and back?

Auto is 3.307

Right but I thought the Ford 8.8 had a 3.55 ratio because I looked into this while my car was a 5spd because they are the same ratio. I swap to auto I never looked into it much after that because I didn't think it would work because of the ratio difference. Or maybe I was wrong all along about the 8.8 being a 3.55 ratio.

Guys, You can get a ring and pinion for an 8.8 in just about any ratio you want. Randys Ring and pinion offers a 3.31 ratio that would match up almost perfectly with the Auto front diff(3.30). For a 5 speed DSM, you would need to source a 3.55 ratio. ALOT of Explorers came with a 3.55 Factory LSD. That combined with 31 spline axles and factory 11 inch discs, would kill a few birds with one stone. A guy with a factory 3 bolt that drag races and thinking about upgrading to a four bolt, can't go wrong with this swap.

With the 8.8 you would get a cheaper, stronger, lighter axle. Once you factor in Toe eliminators, camber problems on launch, cost of a four bolt. It would be cheaper to go with the 8.8 in the long run. The fact the Explorer 8.8 is a hair shorter axle to axle and the bolt pattern is the same is just icing on the cake.

Sorry C-dub for leading your thread a lil off track.:ohdamn:

Any of you 8.8 guys car to show a couple pics of how yours is done? I wonder if the way topstreet is doing it would work very well. A bolt in 8.8 kit could sell really really well. Especially with the expensive ass parts for our chinsy ass rears.
