Honestly, that turbo doesn't impress me much, which is probably why SBR's had it on sale for the past two years. They probably have, like, one left and can't get rid of it.

They tell you right in the listing that the compressor is rated at 38 lb/min, which is the same as a Big 16G. It probably spools later than a 16G, and makes a similar amount of power. It doesn't say what turbine wheel the M-Trim uses, but I know for a fact the Bullseye V-Trim uses the enormous Garrett P trim turbine, which is far too large for a compressor wheel that barely outflows a 16G. The result is a very laggy 16G at best.

Given the reliability problems of some Garrett hybrids, I'd choose a MHI turbo any day of the week. A 16G will use all of your existing coolant lines, your existing oil drain will work with slight modification....the only items you'd need to purchase would be an oil supply line and a j-pipe.

With FP's current group buy pricing on the Evo III 16G, you can't go wrong. Even after you purchase the oil supply and j-pipe you'll need to make the 16G work, you'll still have less spent than you would by the time you get the M-Trim installed.

From what I understand, turbos like the M-Trim and V-Trim with a larger number of compressor blades work very well at low boost levels compared to a 16G or 20G.....contrarily, they work very poorly at higher boost levels, suffering from poor flow and compressor surge. The thing to remember here is that people don't often upgrade their turbos to run low boost.

The SBR dyno test proves how worthless both the V-Trim and M-Trim are at making power above 20psi. Compare their horsepower numbers at boost levels above 20psi to the MHI Evo III 16G.

Jusmx one last question on the 16g, even though we have been through this and beat this to death, for my boost creep issues, i plan to just get a 34mm flapper and externally dumped o2 housing, i don't want to port the turbo so it won't lose it's high boost efficiency.
Will these 2 options be ok to reduce yet retain good power up top ?
 
The unported 7cm2 turbine housing is what the Evo III 16G comes with, and the turbo is designed to be used as such. It will work fine as-is with no porting. You'll want to either port your 2G exhaust manifold's collector to match the inlet of the Evo III's turbine housing, or find an Evo III exhaust manifold and use it as-is with the sealing ring.

If you're going with an o2 dump housing, I honestly don't think you need to shell out more cash for the 34mm flapper to keep boost under control. You'll thank me if you ever plan on running above 20psi, where the 34mm flapper would be difficult to hold shut.

Boost creep is more dependant on how free-flowing your exhaust system is than anything else....if you have a 2.5" turbo-back or even a 3" system with the cat in place, you should have nothing to worry about. It's not like everybody that buys an Evo III has boost creep issues....it's more setup-specific.

Yeah I'd steer clear of the 34mm flapper. You can do it yourself with a dremel and a little knowledge, but it can cause issues too. The opposite of creep LOL. You get that larger flapper on there and it can blow open too early and cause your turbo to build boost slower or not be able to hold higher boost levels. Half the guys with 34mm flappers probably don't notice it, but IB a lot of their flappers are blowing open a little and letting out the exhaust gases prematurely. Not to mention you can install it incorrectly or damage the flapper arm and then you've caused a real mess LOL.
