Budget Downpipe... Good idea or Bad?

Dsm'ers i have a question im looking for a downpipe for my 99 Spyder GS-T i NEED to save as much money as possible. I will be connecting a press bent 3" exhaust to it. I have found these two on ebay but thats about it. I dont really think i need a 3" just for the plain fact that honestly i will not be needing massive HP this is my daily driver and just for fun. Can i get some opinions on these downpipe's or if anyone knows any good places where i can get a quality dowpipe shipped for less than $200 i would be set.

They look good to me you will just have to decide which one the top one looks like it eliinates the cat and the second one looks like you will need a cat with it or use the existing one which will be restrictive unless you get a high flow cat but go for it i would get the cat eliminator one if it were me but i want big flow.

Well, the first one necks down at the flange where the cat would be, and the other necks down by the flex section and at the flange. I plan on just making mine, it doesn't sound too hard, but its different since my car is a 1G and AWD. Good luck whichever way you decide.

What are the advantages and dis-advantages (pro's/cons) of going with the cat eliminator or going high flow cat obviously price for the high flow cat will increase because i need to buy the cat but performance wise will there be a big differnece? Will they sound any different? Thanks for the feedback

Most of the ebay downpipes I've seen are $80-$100.
Also heard good things about them, i.e. tsudo, megan, etc.

I just bought the Megan pipe, I haven't installed it yet, probably this weekend. It seems straight forward.

I do have a question though and perhaps it'll get answered when I get under there and take stuff apart. But there isnt' an O2 bung on the Downpipe. Is that because the Megan pipe bolts to the catalitic ? Or does it replace everyting up to and including the catalytic and the O2 sensor is on a pipe of its own?

The rear o2 sensor is located on the catback -- after the cat. The megan piece replaces up to the end of the catalytic converter.

of coarse cost

con's: louder
may not pass emissions
maybe you could get a ticket for not having a cat?

Get a meagan dp and eliminate the cat eliminator section... Just cut and use the 3" high flow cat to join the DP to the cat back...

High flow cats are cheap these days.

i have the megan 3" dp on my 97 gst. i love it. it grunts under a load but when i am just crusing it isnt too loud. however, it does make the exhaust a little louder. i got the megan dp that eliminates the cat. i am from texas, no one checks for cats.

Like I said you can undo the cat elim aspect of it with a simple exhaust cutter or hacksaw and slip fit a full 3" cat inline.....

It will take the edge off the sound a bit and make it legal and a true 3" turboback.

i just got a megan DP.Fit like a glove.I put a high flow mgnaflow cat cause i live comunistfornia and the cops here go nuts on modded cars so i like to keep it legal.Bushur has some nice affordable pieces too.
