used head good idea or bad idea?

Hey guys/girls

So ill be getting 6bolt swap done soon, I got shortblock and i was going to use my 2g head on my block but i decide that i would rather go with 1g head. At the moment all my money is going for getting shortblock build and for the swap. So i was thinking about using good 1g head and install it on my rebuilt shortblock.

So what you guys thing? Using used head bad idea? I really need to know since i will be purchasing head soon.

If you know for sure that the head is good? Then i would give it a little cleaning and have fun with it.

just make sure there aren't any cracks in the head bud. Then take it to the machine shop and get it decked and you should be all good man. IF you can afford to go ahead and have them work the seats for some 1mm oversized valves

What purpose would it serve if the motor is fed by a 14b or a 16g or similar?

The answer to your question depends on what you are doing with the car or planning on doing.

i would love to but it probaly will cost alot more money if i do that. Since i will be rebuilding the head later on so i want to spend decent amount of the money at the moment.

Yeah well i mean it all depends on your judgment of the head any cracks,etc my recommendation send it out to ffwd connection they have some really good prices on doing up your head.as for what turbo to use it all depends on your budget i mean 14b is a good turbo to use and i from what i head the 14b compressor wheel is a tad smaller than the 16g someone correct me if im wrong here please. But thats my advice more logical ya know

So far im getting my 6bolt block rebuild as you know it already, Other than that im deciding on which turbo at the moment. Choices are t28 or Evo III turbo with Evo III turbo manifold, but i'm leaning more toward EVO III turbo.

FFWD is very nice ppls to deal with. I email them couple time since i was thinking about purchasing the motor. But for 6bolt ready for install on 2g would cost me alot of money so i decided to just get my 6bolt oem spec rebuild so i could use it for while until i save up enough money to purchase a motor from ffwd. But at the moment i cant spend that much money on the head.

at the moment it really depends. But im try to spend about 500 for good used head. Why? If your going to say if you want good head spend more money? i would but at the moment i wont have money since i need to spend it on my swap, parts, labor and misc parts. But i know that when i do save enough money i would be rebuilding the head. But for now my choice are buy a good 1g head or use my 2g head.

Lol thanks alot for your help. I have one problem I do want to get 1g head, if i do purchase the 1g head would it be a problem to send them 2g head?

no for your core it wont be a problem and they do have 2g heads just ask them they had like 2 rebuilds bro

I would make certain it is good. I bought one 1G head that was junk, it detonated itself to death, the seats were beat up, some valves were bent, horrible.

I bought a "good" running 1G head which looked to be in pretty good shape, upon teardown all the intake guides were cracked, it had lost a belt and had some stock replacement valves and the ends of the valves were beat up. It is a good core and I am going to put new guides in with oversized valves, ect ect.

I would at least tear it down and check it before using it.
