Hey guys im building my head and Im about to make my order for some head studs and HG but need help desiding what is best for my set up and goals I have searched but all the results vary by the build so here goes. I am aiming for 375-400 ish dd I have a Fresh hx35,880 injectors , fresh head coming in in a few weeks with 274 regrind cams I plan to run 25-28lbs so I was thinking just to go with a cometic HG the 1.3 mm with the head studs torqued to 85ft/lbs. and some copper HG spray

Just wanted to make sure this was sufficient for my plans as i dont want to do the labor twice . thanks in advanced

If you are able to get the block and head decks resurfaced then go with a cometic MLS but if not then use the OEM. Keep in mind that to get the block's deck resurfaced you have to have the block out and it can be pricy to do get then both done.

Hope this helps!

is the copper spray needed or is it just extra assurance that the hg will seal? I have had my block and head both resurfaced with a nice finish, just wondering if i should use the spray.(have cometic mls hg)

dont mean to ask a ? on someone elses post, just thought it would be pointless to start one if i could get my answer hear.

It's another huge controversial topic. Let's just say that it won't hurt anything either way. If you want to spray it, go for it.

You never mentioned if the block and head had been milled. I wouldn't recommend a Cometic unless they're both perfect. Cometeic requires a surface finish of RA50 or finer to seal properly. If the surfaces haven't been milled you can get an OEM MLS gasket for around $65.

you say 375 to 400hp but when you reach that goal you wont be satisfied...im a big believer in doing things one time and leaving room for upgrades down the road......do yourself a favor and buy a mitsubishi oem metal headgasket and spray all the mating surfaces with copper spray and then properly torque those headstuds in the recommended sequence.....you"ll have no problems running 35 psi realiably and will have piece of mind. Trust me, I am running the same setup and have proven the reliabilty of this setup time and again.

Ive had no issues ever with Cometic headgaskets even when the block wasnt resurfaced. Ive used them many times with just a killer finish on the head surface and the block being left alone, making over 400whp at all times. I ALWAYS use either copper spray gasket or Hylomar spray gasket sealer and to this day have never had any issues.

On the other hand ive also made the same power with ARP L19's and a Felpro or OEM composite gasket...so either way you go you shouldnt have any problems, and i torque my studs in the same sequence as mentione above WITH moly lube. 30, 60, then 90-95. If using motor oil for fastener lube ill knock them down to like 115-120.

my head will be milled but the block will not be so its ok to use a mls hg then as long as i use copper spray? I like the idea of being able to have a small window for future upgrades with out redoing the hg, timing ,etc..

Its not recommended, but i have on MANY occasions and had ZERO issues at all making over 400whp every time and 20+ psi daily.
