1G Broken wiring harnesses, what all engines have a similar setup?

So I broke the brittle sensors on my 1G coolant thingy; the thermostat housing I believe?

Well I went to the bone yard and they are dry on DSM's. What other cars had a similar type of setup as ours? I was able to find 2 of the 3 sensor harnesses on other cars, but the one I am having trouble finding.

I attached a pic of the one I can't find.

It goes to the sensor that's on top, right near where you pour coolant into the the radiator.

1G DSMs have the same connector on the A/C dual pressure switch and a similar connector for the water temperature sensor on the radiator, but I guess that doesn't help since the junkyard doesn't have DSMs.

'91-'96 Expos and '92-'99 Monteros use the same thermostat housing sensor (which, btw, is called water temperature switch and is for the A/C) and should have a similar connector.

The same radiator water temperature sensor is used in '88-'92 Mirages and '88-'93 Galants.

Unfortunately, the A/C dual pressure switch looks unique to 1G DSMs, so that one is out.

Did you consider trying to salvage the connector you have? The wires had to be put in there somehow, you should be able to get them out.

I can do a timing belt, replace a head, but this little torn wire is way beyond me!

I will try and push the wires thru with a screwdriver. I tried pulling them with needle nose no luck.

I also noticed this sensor does not show up in caps, unless I'm looking under the wrong year or something.

So what is this thing?

I found I could not fix it, i had to buy one off the classifieds. I'm sure it's possible but not super easy by any means!

Ive had alot of issues with that same connector and I REALLY hate it! all 5 of my DSMs have been bandaided back together there.

Recently I got this info on here, (Thanks TurboGlenn!) you can use a GM temp sensor from a 87-89 s10 truck or blazer, GMC s15 truck or blazer. and use the harness from it. just splice into your wires where they arent broken and brittle. ALOT of GM vehicles had the same sensor and harness so they are plentiful.

Fixed mine just the other day. The "two pin" plug you showed in the first post can be de-pinned with a small pick or paperclip or something. You can then solder some wire extensions right on the terminals, and slip some heat shrink over them. Then slip them right back in the back of the plug and solder it back onto the harness.

I hate it our DSM's are 20-years old, but I've gotten good with a solder and heat shrink because of it!
