I Was Installing My New Fuel Pump When The Line That Is Connected To The Fuel Serder Unit Broke When I Was Trying To Take It Off. It Is Rusted Real Bad. I Was Wondering If I Removed The End Of It And Slide A Rubber Fuel Hose Over It And Ran It With That If It Would Be Ok Or If It Wouldnt Hold Under Pressure. A Tech At My Work Just Told Me To Double Clamp It And It Would Be Fine. But I Wanted To See If Anyone Has Ever Had To Do This. Please Let Me Know

i used a compression fitting when that happened. with that line seeing over 50psi, i wasnt comfortable just sliding on a rubber hose.

had the line had a "bead" (god, whats the correct term...) on the end like it should, then i would have gone for it.

Also, stop putting a cap infront of every damn word.

The same thing happened to me. I just replaced the whole hard line ( from the sender unit ) with another fuel line that I shaped like the original one. I then put some tank repair paste on top of the sender unit to support the new line and seal the cabin from fuel vapor. Because I 'flared' the lines with a special tool that I rent from the auto store, I just used a rubber hose to connect the new line to the remaining one. Been 2 years and no problems! :thumb: Hope that helps!

i've done this on all three of my dsm's and other cars that i've had to replace the fuel pumps. i dunno where exactly you broke yours at, but i take a hack saw, cut off the flare nut fittings on the sending unit and then the flare nut on the other end after the rubber hose. now clean up the ends where you cut them, make sure the're smooth with no sharp points, and then get some new rubber fuel line, with fuel line clamps, slide it on both ends, and then start it up make sure theres no leaks, drive it around and see if you can smell gas, and if not then your good to go.

yea i had the same problem when i did my fuel pump....i got some fuel line and just clamped the two ends with a hose clamp...haven't had a problem with it and its been on the car for more than 3 months now.

Probably to technical ...... and Kooka probably knows the differences but, he realy wasn't wrong in his original statement.

Beeding is a raised area circumnavigating the tube back away from the end a bit and is meant for switching hose materials (metal to rubber etc.).

monotalonawd used a flare which is the trumpet like expansion of the end of the tube. It's usually used with a matching flare fitting on the opposite side and is normally used to continue a tube of like material.

Most of us don't have the ability to bead a tube so flaring is another and easier option. They both give you simmilar results in the end, in that the hose can't slip off the end of the tube.
