I am putting on a new turbo and when I pulled off the heat shield this is what I found. My question is if I take off the bottom left nut would the turbo come out?

It won't come out unless you have the down pipe and oil return off. If those are still connected it will stay in place. I wouldn't let it hang on the oil return through might not be good for it. To remove turbo all the way you need to remove downpipe, oil feed and return and coolant lines and intake.
 
Short answer : that nut is the only thing holding the turbo to the manifold. Pull the manifold first. Use plenty of rust penetrant, antiseize, and oe spring washers for the new turbo bolts when reassembling.
Would be difficult to pull the manifold with those in place. Probably not even possible since you couldnt get the manifold off its own studs.
 
I had the same thing on two different dsms. On one I was able to get the bolts out with vice grips, on the other I just removed the rad fans, unbolted the downpipe and oil feed
and return lines, removed manifold to head nuts and pulled forward. Popped right off. Put a piece of cardboard over your rad so you don't bend the fins.
If you plan on keeping the manifold, get that nut off and drop the turbo.

So if i take off the oil line and downpipe the nut is the only thing holding the turbo on?
 
unbolt oil drain from the turbo or the pan, which ever is easiest, take that nut off the top of the manifold, unbolt o2 housing or down pipe, if you have water lines drain coolant and remove those from the turbo, and the turbo will come off. PB blaster is your friend.
 
Place your manifold in a vise or on something stable that still allows the turbo to hang below it. Have someone else hold your turbo to keep it from falling. Then use a punch and hammer to drive down on the broken bolts. Be careful, have patience, and do a little at a time on each to keep everything even. Make sure you trust your helper to not drop the turbo when it breaks free. Have a beer afterward.
 
Don't take shortcuts man. Unbolt the mani from the head. Unhook the coolant and oil lines. I tied a rope through the runners of the exhaust mani and to a solid place on car to make sure it didnt just fall or pull down hard on exhaust mani bolts. You are going to have to replace that hotside anyways. And dont get one from turbolab. They sent me 2 defective ones in a row! Even after i called and talked to owner about the first defective one, sent me another haha. Every dsm owner on earth has dealt with this happening. Get some really good antiseize for in the future.
