Could you educate me on static timing and what that does for me when i purchase adjustable cams gears. And also why i need those if i deck the block, which im doing ofr my 6 bolt.

James :laser::talon:

Search for static timing I really can't explain it well enough honestly for it to make sence to anyone but me.

Also for everyone else here is a 8 second video of the car at idle with the Holset.

So everyone is loosing bottom end with there cams? I don't get that. My car seems just fine. Anyone have dyno graphs of side by side before and after cam installs?

I havent figured out what to do with that little lime green BC tree they sent me LOL.

I stuck mine on my tool box, I also got a little red colored "BC" decal too. That one went onto the car, +10whp no doubt about that!!! :thumb::sneaky:

By static timing do you mean valve timing? Or are you refering to something about static compression? I am a little confused by this as well, and I searched and didnt really find anything to this effect. If you can please explain or point me to a proper thread that would be cool.

Thanks,
Bill

Guys, I'm about to pick up a set of these cams and I have a few questions. I was wondering about how long it take's to install these cause I need to know how much beer to buy for my buddies that will be lending me a hand. Maybe a couple hours? I've looked at a couple of the faq's and it look's pretty straight forward. I guess I'll need to pick up one of those timing belt tensioner tools. Also, as far as the tune goes, how much will I have to alter it. Due to more air coming in will the car just run a little leaner across the board or will it run drasticly leaner. What about the low fuel trim's, cruising trim's and the global and deadtime setting's? I'm running dsmlink so making some adjustment's won't be a problem.

Ok you ready...

I try to give full reviews to help ppl w/ their decisions instead of all the half ass reviews ive read....Well I just installed my BC272's today, finally.
The car sounds damn sexy and aggressive. Sounds like its not playing around anymore.

Driving impressions, definite lost in torque when off boost, it takes longer to build boost.
I plan to get some low end back when i install my ported cyclone intake manifold which should give me best of both worlds w/ these cams, i am glad i didnt get smaller cams, and this is coming from a guy who was looking to road race and autox and get the Fp1 cams...

The car is much smoother driving in lower rpms and exhaust note a bit quieter also while cruising, and once full boost is achieved the motor screams as it takes off... Its a very linear pull all the way to redline without the neck snapping torque spike the stock cams paired with the e316g delievered. Its much more smooth, BUT..... The rpms fling way faster to the right.

In first gear, after about 4.5k, as soon as you lay into the throttle, the rpms go so fast afterwards that theres barely time to shift into 2nd gear without revving past 7k,(16g powerband here) and NLTS'ing into 2nd breaks a rear tire loose or two and I have meaty grippy tires...
( Possibly due to these extra light 3rd gen Rx7 rims. )

On the highway, even in 5th gear without downshifting its a constant pull and its easy to get into the 100+mph zones.

I havent retuned it yet for the different airflow, maybe next weekend. Boost is at 20 psi currently... Will post back if i can think of anything else interesting to say for you guys who havent gotten the cams in yet. If your car is decently set up with proper supporting mods and good tuning tools these cams WILL NOT dissapoint. I havent experienced any other cams yet except my friends Fp2s, but i am pleased with the bc272s thus far...

Oh and the idle is as lumpy as dried oatmeal below 900 rpms.
Idle set at 1000. :sneaky:

thats it Im getting cams next yearLOL

I just ordered a set of Brian Crower 272's today. They should be here on Friday and installed on Sunday. Hopefully we should be able to get them in within a couple of hours. Can't wait to hear that notorious lumpity, lump, lump.

Make sure to do a new timing belt while your at it, you only get the lumpy idle if your idle sucks basically. If you keep it where it needs to be it idles normal...however I kept my low to be a ricer i guess :sneaky:

Awsome combo!

I daily drove with a evoIII and cams

Badass setup for how simple it is

I did not notice a loss of low end torque, with the Comp 200 camshafts. With DSM Link my timing is not changed until 4000 RPM. Then it drops a little to keep knock in check. Boost is 21 PSI.
