Break into 13s? Possible?

Just got back from the track. I'm pretty satisfied with my runs but I know I can do better. I just wanted to know if it was possible to break into 13s with better driving. Well, here is what I did on the run.

I would say yes. Work on the launch and get that 60" down.. it will improve your time by quite a bit.

yep man that 60 is horrible. trap speed is 13's for sure. Slap on some drag radials and tell youreself who cares what happens to the car

Cool. I've been practicing and no matter how fast I shift it always seems like my 60' is way up there. I think this is the best 60' I've gotten to date. Kinda sad. I have brand new Falkens on there and lowered the air in them. Hm.

I don't think it's slow shifting that is hindering the 60 foot time. It is almost definitely your launch.

That FWD lauch will get ya. Work on the 60ft like there's no tomorrow and you may see 13's.

Do you slip the clutch out or drop it?

My buddy in his nitrous sohc honda ran 13.05 at 101mph mph.(on slicks)Run drag radials (555R or BFG) and i bet you can get that 60' down to 1.9 or so.

Being a fellow FWD'er i would say the best strategy is to slip the clutch. If you simply pop it out, you'll either bog or spin all the tread off your tires. With dsmlink I set my stutter to 4500rpms and just slip it out a little and once the clutch really starts to grab, i floor it. Of course i have an lsd which helps. Others may disagree with slipping but ive found it to work best for me. Try both and see which you like better.

I decided to invest in some drag radials or slicks. Anyone have recommendations?

I'll probably pick up some 16" rims and just slap the slicks on those.

yes definitely slip it out. if you tried both i guarantee you that you will feel more grip while slipping it out.

yea, that trap speed is definately into the 13's. think of it this way, for every 1 tenth you take off your 60', you take 2 tenths off your final et. such as

14.3 w/ 2.5 60'
if you can run a 2.3 60' then theoretically you would run a 13.9
so yes, you are definately able to hit high 13's. just work on the launch, practice practice practice. my best 60' is a 2.3 and that was my first night launchin with my new clutch.
so just practice, you will get there.

Falken Azeni's are not a good drag racing tire. The sidewalls are too stiff, all you will do is sit there spinning your front wheels.

However, when you go to turn, their beauty will shine through

I suggest slipping. I don't even dump the clutch in my AWD. I slip it very quickly, but I don't dump it. You don't want the power to come on all at once. If it does, then you will spin wheels. You want it to come on as quickly as possible without spinning wheels. It takes practice. Hell, I can't even launch my AWD like I should; that takes more practice than people think.

Holy crap that 60' is horrible! thirteens is definitly possible with your car. My friends fwd honda with an lsd nitrous and slicks does like a 1.8 60 foot. I have yet to do one of those in my car. I can't believe it. It's possible man practice helps but I think it would be best to try out some different tires.

Drag radials and a clutch that can handle the power is a must...I personally slip my clutch also. I use relatively high revs (5k). let the clutch out rapidly half way. Control wheel spin by feathering the gas till I feel the wheels start to grab. Then I let the clutch all the way out and hammer the gas...Takes alot of practice but once you get it 13's is not a problem...But to do this a strong clutch is a must.

I didn't see a clutch upgrade on your mod list. If you're running stock clutch still, I would definetly do that next. That should help a lot with launching.

Makes your car feel a lot more "solid" at the least. You're launches will improve a lot and shifts will be extremly solid. You'll only feel a power difference during a pull if you're current clutch is slipping. If it's not slipping, it's probably going to start when you make some more power and keep racing. My stocker died just with the T-25 back in the day, I never did a 1/4 run or hard launch with my car

If you plan to do a lot of 5k launch with sliping techniq, your stock clutch will not last to long. When I installed the Act2600 and Act lighten flywheel I did notice that it grabs better in every gear and better throttle responds as well. Be prerpare to learn the clutch all over again though, they aren't easy to drive.
