Just got done putting a new turbocharger and timing belt on, due to leaking and burning oil, the burning oil from the turbocharger shaft seals, and the leak from the tensioner, which puked it all over my old belt, thus I replaced it(rubber+oil=bad). Well now, after only 2 test drives(still have some other kinks to iron out) I noticed a tear in the middle of the timing belt...so now I have to replace it...again...
Anyone know of anything that could cause that? I thought maybe it caught on the hood(my upper cover is missing) but didn't see any edges that could have caught it.

Well I have a theory that it could be the tip of the timing belt tensioner tool that broke off might not have fallen to the ground after all...it wasn't in the threads and I didn't see it sitting anywhere, but maybe that or some other debris found its way in there....Sigh....$20 for a tool that didn't work, broke, and possibly destroyed my new timing belt, fantastic.

The only thing I've ever seen wear out a timing belt is the bolts on the oil pan flange not being in their proper place. I've never heard of a timing belt 'tear' in a few test runs. If you have unbolted your pan give this link a looksie.
