Braided Stainless Steel Vacuum Lines?

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

The guy above did the same. Should I use heatshrink? I think it looks pretty good in my opinion. I was going to use hoseclamps.
Well, if you aren't using AN fittings, then I'd recommend that you use regular rubber vacuum hose with something on the end to clamp it down tight (I've always had great luck with safely wire). An airtight seal is more important than the way it looks.

What you have for the crankcase vent hose and overflow bottle are OK. But the connections where there is high pressure/vacuum, it's probably leaking.

Most of the upper radiator hoses are just gonna be custom made. -AN Fittings and ss braided hose. Or a regular hose with a sleeve kit.

Honestly if you wan't something that looks better and can't afford much get some wire sleeve and some heat-shrink and go to town.

WireCare.com :: Your Cable Management SuperStore! is one of the best websites I've found for heatshrink and wiresleeve.

Normal vacume is rubber with a clamp. I wish they had braided one that you can clamp. I heard of magna clamps but why wouldnt a normal hose clamp work?

They do, and it will. :)

Would heat shrink work as a seal as the guy did above?

As Paul said, not likely. I've used some pretty rugged adhesive-lined heat shrink tubing that may hold up for a while, but even it probably wouldn't last long. The stainless steel sleeve on braided line is abrasive as hell and will tear through just about anything like tape or heat shrink in no time.

Is there a complete list for the size's and length's of the vacuum lines? Heater Hoses? Fuel and Oil lines? Brakes?

I'm replacing ALL of my vacuum lines, then moving onto the fuel and oil lines to include power steering. Further down the road I will replace AC and Heater hoses... finally brakes.

I need a complete list of size/diameter and lengths. I've been searching all day

Even with diameter? Length should be easy that goes without saying.

Well, this thread is about stainless braided hoses, and there's really only two sizes; -3 and -4. You can either use a combination of each, or run all -4.

Or grab a $15 set of dial calipers from harbor Freight and measure the ID of the ones you have.

you might be able to get some of them. but not all of them unless you find some more sizes of tubing.
The 2g dsm uses 4, 6 and 8 mm tubing for the vac lines.

4mm for throttle body stuff and fuel pressure regulator
6mm for manual boost controller and for the blow off valve
8mm for the breather hose (also the line from the radiator cap to the coolant overflow)
10mm for the coolant overflow dump tube
From what I've heard (no first hand experience) the 1g is similar but uses a great deal more 4mm...

4mm=.15748" closest fractional is 5/32" or 10/64" (to normalize them)
6mm=.23622" closest fractional is 15/64" or 15/64" (to normalize them)
8mm=.31496" closest fractional is 5/16" or 20/64" (to normalize them)
10mm=.39370" closest fractional is 25/64" or 25/64" (to normalize them)

That Jeg's page has
1/4" or 16/64" (to normalize them) (should roughly work for the 6mm tubing)
5/16" or 20/64" (to normalize them) (should roughly work for the 8mm tubing)
3/8" or 24/64" (to normalize them) (should roughly work for the 10mm tubing)

So you should roughly be able to replace just about everything except for that mess up by the TB and the FPR...if you find some 5/32" or equivelent let us know.

This one is for the 420a?

But to add to this thread; here's some pics I've taken over the past few years that I've been using SS brainded, teflon lines brake hoses.

These are the ones that I use: http://www.allstarperformance.com/product.htm?prod=369&part=ALL48165&add=no

Paul (99gst_racer) I know this is real old but I have a few questions.
Would -3 or -4 an for the wastegate lines?
What size MM for the banjo for the tial bov and wg?
What fitting are you using for your comp cover?
Whats the thread size or what fitting do I need to get my boost controller to be AN?
I have this one.

Im not sure about the threads.

I know this wasnt directed toward me but I will try and help...

-For wastegate lines I would run -4an
-Thread pitch for TiAL wastegate and BOV is M10x1.0 (make sure you use crush washers or some sort of sealing, they are straight threads)
-The larger turbo has a NPT bung, likely 1/8-1/4, 90 degree to -4an
smaller turbo, looks like it has (unknown thread pitch by me) to -4an adapter
-That boost controller uses 1/8 npt, you will need 1/8 npt to -4an fitting to run AN lines with that boostcontroller

I use -4.

10mm. I use the Tial banjo bolt with this banjo fitting.

What fitting are you using for your comp cover?
-4 to 1/8" NPT adapter. They are available in straight, 45* and 90*.

Like Lawrence said, you'll need a -4 to 1/8" NPT adapter. I'm not too familiar with that particular MBC, but you may have to put a bleeder hole in the new fitting if you change them out.

So 10mm banjo for the wg and BOV. Im running the pte gate. Instead of using just the banjo fitting, would the line with the banjo on it work better? Like this? part number all48194. Then I can use the normal bolt with it it would just replace the banjo on the wg and bov?

Paul how do you order from them? Theres no cart, just find a dealer.

That particular line is another option. The only problem is that it's only available in one length (24").

Another thing to consider is that not all banjo fittings are of the same thickness. And certain banjos bolts will require a certain thickness banjo to be sure the hole in the bolt is where it needs to be. The banjo fitting that I linked to is .555" thick. The banjo on that line that you linked to is .355" thick. So, you'll have to measure your existing banjo bolt or banjo to see which one will work.
