BPR7ES plugs on a DD - does it matter?

I understand for most moderatley modified engine builds for street use BRP6ES plugs but I didn't realize I had the 7ES plugs when I bought them, the new engine seems to be idleing perfect, I have a video of it idleing as well. no real problems with the car just yet, but just rebuilt, already drove around a fair amount.

what is it people say will happen if you use 7ES instead of 6? I'm running stock boost on a 16g, upgraded fuel lines &rewired wally 255 but on 450's. evo 3 manifold & 02 housing, 3" full exhaust. is this good enough?

thanks in advance

I don't see why you can't run those plugs on stock boost. As a matter of fact, I think you would be better off. Less chance of fouling the plugs. I foul my 7's pretty easily but never had that problem with the 6's.

The BPR7ES has a cooler heat range than the BPR6ES, which means the 7ES runs colder by dissipating more heat. Colder is better so long as you don't foul the plugs or have cold-start issues. Since the 7ES is better for anything over stock horsepower I would keep them. Just make sure the gap is around .028-.030

I got that backwards. Amending my post. I'd watch for fouling if I were him. If it were me, I'd take those 7's out (if they are in good shape) and save them for when he turns the boost up. I'd install 6's for better combustion for his current setup. I ran 6's right up to 16 psi. Last owner was a DSM big wig and that was what he chose so that had me convinced along with my own feelings.

Yeah, I would check them next oil change just to be sure. But I ran BPR7ES from stock boost on gas to over 25psi on E85. So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Well that kind of settles it I'd guess. Maybe my first set of wires were garbage or my car has other issues.

I cheat some. I use BPR6EY plugs. These are the grooved electrode plugs that produces a bit of a rounder spark for more effective burn. I can tell the difference between the 6ES and these 6EY plugs - got a bit more bump with the 6EY plugs.

ran them in my car on stock boost with no issues. and will continue to run them with the new setup. they seem to run better than the 6's.

With your mods the 7ES I would think would be ideal. Check the link to the Spark Plugs FAQ WES linked, good info.

He is running stock boost. I'd bet the 6ES or 6ESY would run better with stock boost and make more power in that configuration.

As far as *safe* running colder plugs OP certainly looks to be. However, I don't think it will be any better. I think that with stock boost he would actually make more power with the hotter plug.
