I just got a new 1G BOV because I thought that the original one was leaking. With the new one installed, I still get air out the recirculation hose when I pressure test at the Upper IC Pipe just before the BOV. I am testing at 15 psi. I thought the 1G BOV was good to 17psi. Is it leaking because there is a pressure differential on each side of the valve and the spring isn't strong enough to hold by itself? Is this normal? In case it matters, I have leaks at the injectors and maybe the TB shaft seals.

Both the gasket and 1G BOV are brand new. The air is coming out the recirc. tube not the gasket area. Most of the info I've found says this shouldn't happen but a few posts say it is due to there not being equal pressure on the diaghram side during a boost leak test. Just trying to figure out which is correct and if I just wasted cash on the new BOV when I didn't need one.

Is rated to about 15psi, then you need to crush it. BUT, when you are testing it, are you pressurizing the vac line also? If it doesnt hold vac, its usually cause the line on the top isnt being pressurized also.

How are you testing it?

I have the intake track capped at the stock hard pipe before the BOV. I am using a compressor with a quick disconnect for pressure. I am testing at 15 psi verified at the aftermarket boost gauge. I have tried testing with the vac line on and off. It seems to leak a little more with it off which makes sense to me.

The proper way to do a leak test is at the inlet of the turbo... it pressurized the WHOLE intake tract all the way to the valves. And since it pressurizes the intake mani, itll simulate boost and hold the BOV shut.

I did the test originally from the turbo inlet. The old BOV leaked at the recirc tube and that's why I thought I needed to get a new one. By pressurizing at the pipe before the BOV I'm taking out the possiblility of leaks at the lower IC hose and concentrating on the BOV and everything after.

Anyway, I just finished replacing the injector seals and took a look at the old BOV. There is a small hole in the bottom that if you put pressure to it, the valve opens. That must be why it appears to be leaking. I still don't understand what this hole is for though. Can someone explain that?

really? leaks at 15psi.. my 1G BOV held fine @ 18 psi ... unmodded..

i now run a NGR type S .... you should look it up .. it holds 23 psi fine... my current boost setup..

I must be missing something here. With the way I'm testing, there should be equal pressure in the intake track and the vac line to the BOV. If that's true then the spring should be able to hold at least the 15 psi that is in the system.
