Late to debate, but you want to feel for a boost leak not just listen. Tail pipe, intake manifold, etc. If you really want to get tricky you can make your own smoke machine with the help of youtube, then pressurize for boost leak test with the system full of smoke
If the boost leak test is inconclusive then compression test. Those numbers will indicate if your rings or head holds pressure.
Most of the time they junk used 14b's or abused used td05 turbos I've run from a junkyard or just heavily used will leak pressure back into the crank case from the cartridge. Nothing like popping the dipstick out and shittting yourself with oil and smoke everywhere
