Boost gauge vaccuum line routing

I've read several threads suggesting that the best place to run the boost gauge vaccum line through the firewall is through the steering boot. However, that thing is so tucked away behind the motor that I can't see any way to get at it.

What am I missing?

If you can at least see it then I'd just tape the vaccum line to something stiff like a coat hanger. Me and a friend did it, its easier to have some one grab it for you. Also try not to kink the line.

Use something like an exacto knife to cut through both layers of the steering boot from the inside. You pretty much have to get on your back for this. Cut an "X" shape in the steering boot as far as you can from the steering column shaft, but not touching the firewall. Attach the rubber vacuum hose to a coat hanger and bend it in an L-shape. Push the coat hanger and hose through the X and point the L-shape up towards the manifold. Put a plastic tee in between the manifold and fuel pressure solenoid. Attach the vacuum hose. Run the other end of the vacuum hose to the left of the steering column towards the A-pillar (if that's where you're mounting your boost gauge), keeping it as far away from the pedals and any sharp edges as you can. Zip-tie it to other wires that are out of the way. Push it up to your A-pillar location and mount your gauge. Call it a day.
