i bought a greddy profec electronic boost controller . i havent tuned it yet or anything . do you think i should stick with the profec or get a manual boost control ? :confused:

alot less complicated thats for sure . thanks for the help . i just turbo'd my car so there are still alot of bugs to work out . any tips ?
 
:ohdamn: "building" a motor doesnt make it bullet proof. I meant start with a very low boost number and get a feel for what the car is going to do. As far as advice on wastegate adjustments?? I wouldnt run more than 4-6psi for a base run and see where your AFRs are at. Im no expert to Turbo'd N/Ts but I do know you will need to watch the AFRs and keep boost at a low level until you get a "feel" for the car. :):)

Here's a tip. Keep an eye on your boost! Since I built my engine and turbo'd my Colt last summer, my Hallman MBC has forgotten to work twice. I was wondering why I was picking up knock; it turned out to be uncontrolled boost.

Ball bearings apparently aren't perfect either. I've been seriously wondering if there's a better way.
 
My friend has an ebc, (greddy I think) and I went WOT in his car and it kept fluctuating from 20-22psi, and it felt very mechanical, as in the car would pull then slow down then pull then slow down. I've heard nothing but good things from Hallman's. (besides price)

The price is worth the peace of mind IMO
 
I've had the chance to use quite a few different Electronic boost controllers over the years. I have an HKS EVC EZ in the wifes car and a Blitz Dual solenoid in my car. Another friend has the greddy profec-B, hates the dang thing and it doesn't work consistently on his car. No complaints from my other buddy with a Hallman MBC.

I like the HKS for the wifes car as I have 4 peset boost levels. With the controller turned off its 10 psi, Turned On and in the low position 15 psi, med 22 psi, high 29 psi. I like to leave it in the OFF/low when she drives it and High when I'm driving. Its pretty dang simple to operate and has been working trouble free for 3 years. Only complaint is the boost tapers when in the high setting to 26 PSI by redline, I think this is more a problem with the turbo (evo3 16g) than the controller.

On my car I have the Blitz DSB electronic controller. It has 5 programmable levels which is nice for me and is spot on. Never any creep or taper on any boost setting. It also has a gain control so you can manipluate how fast the controller repsonds to changes in pressure. It has held a rock solid 31-32 PSI and as low as 15 lbs accuratley and repeatably.


The concusion I have come to is that the stepper motor electronic eoost controllers are no where near as accurate or dependable as the solenoid activated controllers. I would stick with a MBC if my only other choice was a Greddy unit.
