Bolt-ons for a 420a in an Avenger?

Alrite so I don't know if should be on this forum. I own a 1998. Dodge avenger and I can't find anything anywhere. I just Wana know as much as I can about my car what mods cAn be used on it fro. The eclipse. I have the 420a motor with a 5 speed tranny. What parts will work with it because it seems almost impossible to find performance parts. Sorry bout grammar I'm on an iPod

thanks il check. i read some it says most parts can be. but i wana know for sure if a short ram intake will fit, a new throttle body, and maybe some other parts.

why wouldn't a short ram intake work? and to find parts for your car look up performance parts for the 2g Eclipse RS, and GS. as they have the same engine as the Talon ESi and the Avenger. its how i look for parts for my ESi Talon. its alot easier.

The carbon fiber doors and hatches won't work on your Avenger.

If I had an Avenger, I'd swap in a 4G63, and convert it to AWD.
It's not really that much work.

Me too, but here in NY it would have to be 95 or older to pass the emissions test with those mods. Not sure what WI does for inspection, but here they plug the NYS computer network directly into your ODBII port. If it's not the right ECU for the car, or the data monitors haven't passed you're basically screwed.

There's a guy a few blocks from my shop who's working on a 4g swap on one at his house. He's been at it for years, but I have no idea how he plans to get it inspected.

yes headers for a eclipse will work. just look up eclipse performance parts, or parts for the 420a. its how i search for my engine parts. youll find alot more listings if you look up the eclipse.

Anything that will fit the 420a will fit your avenger there the same motor. In othere words just look up parts for the non turbo eclipse is what were saying. I am also in high school so I understand the money your dealing with. For reliablity I would go with a CAI, headers and full 2.5 inch exhaust also maybe an underdrive pulley

I say intake, exhaust. If you get a full header back exhaust you will notice a little bit of a differance for sure.

Also you can get new plugs NGK iridium tips or what have you, and gap them around .035'' or so.

As far as the Throttle body goes, you can get a bigger one 55mm. But if you do not get the intake manifold bored out then its like a blocking plate and wont really do anything.

only really problem you will have is mixing and matching interior and exterior items, but hell even some of those are interchangeable.

Thanks guys. I'm gettin a short ram intake for Christmas. Buy a header as soon as I can afford a decent one. I was looking at either pacesetter or obx?. I need new exhaust because mimes rotted through. And yeah thanks for All the help

look on ebay for the headers and exhaust. ive seen the package with the header, downpipe, high flow cat, and catback all for around $200 or so.

Ok. So I found an airaid throttle body spacer for An eclipse. Can I use it without a new throttlenbody

TB spacer isnt really going to do anything for you.
I would suggest a Jeep TB mod, CAI/ram intake and a header/exhaust.

After that leave her alone until you wanna come to the dark side...........

just so you know, those dudes were kidding about swapping it with a 4g63. It's nearly financially and physically impossible to put a 4g63 into anything with the 420a engine.

But to answer your question, when you look up parts just look for eclipse or talon parts. all parts for the 420a engine are interchangable no matter what car it came out of. (except for the neon because it has a backwards head)

A good intake and exhaust will do good. A throttle body off of a jeep 4.0 inline 6 will fit with a little modification to the TPS i believe. You could also get a head off of a pt cruiser. Or you could get an aftermarket valvetrain and cams for your head. I also believe that the clutch out of a pt cruiser works a little better than the oem clutches in our car. You might want to do some research on that though.

The exhaust system from a 2g FWD DSM will not fit an Avenger/Sebring; the wheel base is longer on the Avenger/Sebring. Otherwise, the motors are the same. Doors will fit, but skirts wont. You can swap the front end from an Eclipse/Talon to your Avenger if you want, but you'll require the entire front clip from a DSM. Most major interior parts swap, like dash, seats, and centre console.

There is a site dedicated to the Avenger/Sebring you may find helpful ( http://www.asog.net ) or you can get your information from here, just be aware of the minor differences.

A good site for parts is Howell Automotive that site has helped me a lot with my 97 5 speed. I got an ecu, injectors, 255 walbro, and other parts. Then i bought a 95 gsx and now my avenger is a daily driver.
