Wiring led's isn't all that hard with a good soldering iron and some time. The hardest thing about it is getting started on the project

I used to mess around and solder random things with an antiquated computer soldering iron, but it's been ages. I think my main problem was not wanting to completely destroy my car, so I figured plug in bulbs would suffice. Apparently the plastic bracket holding up the HVAC controls didn't agree with me.

I got a few questions. Those Dual subs look awesome, how do they sound?

And.... how and what do i do to get an awesome keyhole LED? i think mine blew out thats why im freaking out.

Thank you very much! I would definitely recommend doing it, as it's very inexpensive, gives you a fresh look, and it much brighter than the stock bulbs. Of course, I have to chime in that the Evo series from Prosport matches perfectly; I need to get a commission from these guys, seriously!

The Duals actually sound fantastic in a DSM. I generally keep the bass down very low, as they have a tendency to set off car alarms fairly easily. Fair warning though, if you decided to get the matching speakers, they benefit greatly from an amp or a high powered headunit. The Dual headunit I had pictured in the first couple of shots had a horrible sound with them; but, the Pioneer dvd unit(pictured later) made them sound like brand new speakers.

As for the ignition ring LED, just scroll up a bit in the thread and I have the website and model number that will fit.

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

::EDIT:: The only thing I should warn you about is the cluster. If you plan on swapping that to blue, your only choices are to sand down the orange film, get a fresh replacement set from BlackCat Customs(they will put in a film to work with blue LEDs), or an indiglo-esq overlay. I think that's why a lot of people prefer using red, it actually shines through the stock face without needing a replacement; though, it would still benefit from the loss of the orange film.

Yeah, to be honest i just made do with what i had at the time. I still like the brightness of yours though. I did order that LED bulb you recommended for the keyhole so that should be here soon.

Understood, I did the same. Sweet though, let me know how you like it once it's in there. Oh and if you've never done the ignition ring before, be warned that the screw holding it in is tiny, at a crap angle, and might frustrate you if you don't have the right tools. I'd suggest a good 45 degree with a P1 bit.

You'll need to reference post #25 for all the bulb sizes and part numbers; but if you need detailed information about the actual replacement process, I'll see what I can do.

I was also thinking about doing a red/blue mix, and hey, I still might. It could be interesting since the Evo gauges are switchable with blue/red as well.

I know the pics aren't the best, but my phone doesn't enjoy red lighting all that much. It looks great in person though!

Here is my setup. Install was pretty easy except for the HVAC bulb. I ended up duct taping it in place as I could not get it twist back in.

^Actually orange should be easier on the eyes or so they say.

I agree, blue is hard on the eyes to transition to. most aircraft have red or amber for easier eye transition from focusing on anther fixed object.

Its just one bulb be the middle dial and the ac button.

Slide out the ac button and use some need nose to twist it out, remove old bulb, insert new, twist back in.

This shit is so simple a damn 12 year old could figure it out.

You just need a philips head screw driver and the ability to figure out how to use it.

It literally took me a half hour to change all the bulbs and put everything back together.

I would have been done in 25 minutes but I spent 5 minutes looking for my ac switch that I lost. There are multiple write ups on how to do this. Look in the tech articles or the thread that has allready been posted, then simply change the bulb color what ever color you want, or skip all the bits where it says to solder shit, and just use the plug and play bulbs.

so did you actually sand it, or you really just plug and play with it turning out bright blue?

It depends on how bright you want the gauges. It was fine without sanding it using the 3 led bulbs.

I took em off and sanded down through the b/w gradient but left the orange diffusing film. If you want maximum brightness sand it till you can see the numbers. I was using p400 3M sand paper and wet sanding.

Man, I totally forgot to check this thread. Just wanted to chime in that there was a 1G member who did a green setup with his cluster. I believe it's on the final pages of Rodent's initial write up, but I could be mistaken.

Oh and I agree on the lunacy of a detailed write up. Most of the switches can be accessed by prying the trim pieces out, or unscrewing/unbolting hardware. Personally I just took a day and took off every trim piece I could get access to, it helped me a lot when my 12v source died, putting in speakers/radio, and any other random bulb replacement.

Sadly, it looks like I'm getting rid of this car, but at least it was fun while it lasted!

I did a bonehead one with my ignition switch light. I had the door open knowing its tied in to the ignition light and put the led in and nothing. Flipped The polarity around and nothing. Tried a second led and nothing. Tried the original bulb and nothing. I forgot the driver door switch is bad so I opened the passenger door and let there be light. I probably spent 1/2 hr testing the leds and other bulbs in known working sockets before it dawned on me what was wrong. In my defense I had worked all night and had been up for about 20hrs.

Your cig lighter shouldn't shutoff, neither of mine do. You might have a short in there or something. Honestly though, now that I'm thinking about it, how's your battery? These LEDs have less draw than normal lights, so it shouldn't cause your lights to dim that drastically when your headlights are on. The only other thing I could think of is that your lights being on is drawing too much energy, along with a weak battery.
