Blue interior LEDs

It all depends on how crazy you want to get with it. If you just want to drop in replacement bulbs, then it is as easy as getting to the bulbs and swapping them with LEDs.

But... if you want a true multi-colored cluster and something like white LEDs in all of the switches in the HVAC panel, etc., it gets more complicated. On at least the 1G, there are several tiny bulbs in various places that don't have any drop-in replacements; at least none that I've been able to find. So you may have to get creative with small LEDs and/or resistors. And the HVAC symbols are backed by a nasty yellow contact cement and are much more delicate than the gauge faces. So if you want truly white indicators, you have to somehow remove that without getting into the masking...which ain't easy. (I ended up having to draw and print new artwork for them before I was happy with it).

Another issue is that with the factory cluster, the backing on the gauge faces various in thickness and crosshatching to even out the hot spots. If you sand it down to raw plastic in order to do some different lighting effects, you may have to work on the interior of the cluster with additional LEDs and reflective material to get a nice even look to the lighting.

One other thing worth noting... the 1G circuit that lights the "Door Ajar" indicator in the cluster is tied in with the dome light and ignition ring lighting. The delay circuit slowly bleeds off voltage through the bulbs until it reaches 0v. If you replace all of those bulbs with LEDs, the voltage will never drop all the way to zero (since LEDs have a minimum forward bias voltage), and you'll be left with a small drain and possibly a cluster indicator that continues to glow. The simple solution to this is to leave one of the bulbs as an actual bulb; in my case the cluster indicator worked fine and doesn't look much different than the LED indicators.

An easier solution to your gauge backing problem is to contact Black Cat Custom Automotive, they have replacement faces for the HVAC and instrument cluster, which they can custom tailor to your specific color needs. It's not as effective as doing it yourself, but it's far less time consuming if you're not DIY savvy.

Can you show which 74 bulbs (if 74 are the bulb size) u picked up from the site please.

and is the bulb for the ignition key the same? thanks :)
and how many were there?

For future reference, check out the original How-To by Rodent:

http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/app...superbright-red-leds-my-cluster-switches.html

But for time's sake, the 74 I used was the 74-xHP3. The light was very uniform, even in the cluster; with only a few hot and dead spots. The ignition ring is also a 74, and only one is needed. You'll need different bulbs for the smaller switches, but you can check those out on Rodent's write-up.

i was trying to do the same thing, who ever had it before me tried to do it to but jack in to power by putting the power wire of a cheap walmart light bar into the socket of the under dash lights with the light still in it when i went to remove and change it i saw a spark now none of the under dash lights work the iver head map lights dont work and my door sensor dont work any help on this ???

Have you checked your fuses?

Here's a thought, what if you didn't want to change the color of your cluster/HVAC but you did ant to swap to LEDs. Is there an OEM style LED? Or a natural light color LED? I have doubts about straight up amber.

There are amber LEDs, just not sure if there are oem style LED "bulbs" in amber

The bulbs listed do come in amber, so you could use that for an OEM-like style. Though I couldn't guarantee that they would match to the original color. I'm sure on the cluster it would look just fine, but the only way to check for the switches is to go on superbrightleds.com and order yourself an amber 74 and 3mm, plug em in, and see if they work for you. White is also a nice choice for a more subtle look, though it would still require sanding on the back of the gauge faces.

Anyway, just my $.02

First off these blue leds look amazing and I want to do it. I'm new to all of this and I have been trying to figure out how to access the HVAC light to change it out. How would I do this? Sorry for the dumb question.

I took out the center vent and then used my GF's compact mirror and a flashlight to see the light socket and used mini needle nose pliers to grab the socket and turn it out. Then simply change the bulb out. Its kind of like if you have ever tried to cut your hair in a mirror. A little difficult but can be done.

just finished mine here are some pictures.

That looks awesome i cant wait to do something like that with mine.
did you use individual leds or an led strip on the 6x9 speakers?

Did you make this led strip yourself? What kind of leds did you use to make it? I tried to do mine a couple weeks ago but it was so freakin hard to get the strip to squeeze in there.
