Recently I started running really lean at idle and super rich at WOT.

At first I just thought my WBO2 was acting up. So I replaced the sensor. No change.

Boost leak test. Didn't find any leaks.

I did have a meth nozzle leak. Fixed that, now at this point I'm running even richer at WOT.

So to get me by for a while I just tuned around it and kept on driving it.

I decided to do another Boost Leak Test a week ago and found a leak at cylinder 3's intake port. It was so close to the injector it made it look like a lower injector seal leak. So, I replaced the injector seals. Leak still there...

So, I replaced the intake gasket...

So I'm just curious. Why does the gasket look like it was Sucked into the port. You would think that if it was from too much boost or a tuning issue it would be pushed or blown out of the port? Interesting isn't it?

So, I'm asking.... What gives?? Others who have blown their intake gaskets, is this what happend?

I rolled my tune back to what it was before this happend and it's running great!!

Improper torquing would be the only thing I could think of. Possibly when it got removed and the bolts weren't removed in the right order it caused the flange to bent just even so slightly and made it harder to seal.

^^
That would be my guess.. Everytime i take off the intake gasket, there's always some piece torn off or odly shaped, old age plays a big role

Doubt theres a need to call Ripley's Believe it or Not :idontknow:

That gasket has 19,000 miles on it.

I guess If I continue to have problems I'll look into if it's a problem with the intake manifold flange or what not.. At $7 for the gasket.. I think it's an affordable failure...

If you used a stock Mitsu gasket that wouldn't have happened. The stock gaskets are metal.

Metal :rocks:... I'll try that next time...

well i noticed it was on the top of the manifold port did you ever have a valve cover leak in the 19,000 mile period of time, the paper gasket would have soaked up any oil, lossing its abillaty to seal properly and would get brittle over time with heat and fail. its kinda like looking at a carborator gasket on an older car they get brittle over time and are in almost constant contact with gasoline. you might have a drippy or clogged injector, if the gas doesnt get ionized proporly it would stream into the the chamber running over the surface of the port instead of mixing with the air, it could have become soaked with gas and boost pressure could have over time pushed the gas into the gasket, and when the forces change from boost to vac. the vac pressure is usally greater than the boost unless your running like 27 30 + pounds of boost

Nope no oil leaks from the VC. The only "leak" I have had around that area was the PCV hose. But that's over top of Cylinder 4's intake port.

I don't know... If I continue to have issues I'll first buy a OEM Mitsu gasket and then if that doesn't help, I'll have to go with a new intake manifold. :sneaky:
