So, it seems like the rad hose heater that was on my car when I bought it doesn't work, so I'll be ordering a new one to replace it. But I got thinking, did any 4g63 powered vehicles come with a block heater? I mean, the more the better when it gets to -40ºc and lower at times.

Could just replace the rad hose heater, slap on an oilpan heater and install a battery blanket and you'd be good to go. I'm up in yellowknife and that's what a lot of diesel trucks use to start up and we get past 50 below

Anything to heat the oil prior to startup no matter where you live is a great idea. I dont know alot about them but a simple heating element at the bottom of the pan would work great. So long as your battery is stout.

Also by heating more of the motor with a rad hose heater and block heater it'll cut down on your warm up time on the cold mornings

Why didnt any 4gs come with a block heater..My guess would be because its not a deisel truck.

Haa..But seriously you can get the heater pads at your local auto parts store for pretty cheap.I looked at them last winter. I know a canadian with a heater on his eclipse..So Your definatly not the first one to want one.

I'm definitely going to replace the inline heater and probably get a pan heater. The other possible addition I was considering is slapping a pan heater on the transmission somewhere to help out the first few shifts. I've always ran full synthetic fluid in my manual cars and the first few shifts always seems a bit laboured no matter what I do

-50 thats pretty tough weather man ! Do you guys have to run ow-40 synthetic oil in motors, i think mobil 1 starts to pour out like molasses at that temperature for example

I had a Toyota pickup that I installed a block heater on. Very convenient. It was 110 not 12v so I had to plug it in just like a diesel truck.
