Alright, I have (2) 1st gen AWD's, so dsmlink is outta da question.

Currently, I'm venting my HKS SSQV to atmosphere, and would like to go with the blow thru setup.

I want to get the translator, gm maf, intake pipe, s-afcII, and a datalogger so I can tune everything. Maybe even a wideband. 190 fuel pump and re-wire.

I drive one of my cars daily, so I want to get a lil bit better gas mileage and performance out of it.

Once I get all of the above, will I be able to tune my car and get noticeable better gas mileage and performance?

Can I set my fuel trims a certain way so that at cruising speed(60m.p.h.) on the freeway I get better gas mileage safely?

I know you can tune the low and high settings, but I want to lean out my car a little more at 60m.p.h. since I know these cars run on the rich side.

Also, does anybody know if there are any palm pilots out there that I can also use for navigation with the gps antenna, as I want to be able to use my palm pilot for more then just datalogging. Preferably color.

I've seen some palm pilots that have that gps navigation feature but I'm not sure if they will also work for datalogging. I searched but found nothing.

What are you tuning for? just to vent to the atomoshere? if so just get a maft and zero out in blow thew. Why the AFC and datalogger you have nothing to tune for. Like bigger injectors to compesate for them or bigger turbo, or more boost on stocky. You cant adjust FT's by MPH only by throtle positions. And the whole our cars run rich anyways thing is partially untrue. I guess you could pull some ID out off the stock 450's and try to get better gas milage? i dont think its going to be noticable at all. And next even if you start modding like bigger turbo and such. a good conservitave tune will still use more gas then stock.

Ok to my knowledge none of the palms will work with navigation with the antenna and stuff the only color palm everyone uses is the Palm IIIc.

injectors and fuel pump are down the line, as well as a fuel pump rewire.

since im venting, i wanna do the maf-t blow thru first, then intake pipe, datalogger so i can fine tune the maf-t, then s-afcII right before i get my injectors.

I read post by guys(1g awd) on here with a gang load of mods and they get 28-31 miles per gallon. And I'm not talking about intake and exhaust, these guys got 255 walbro fuel pumps, afpr, fmic, way bigger injectors, maf-t, boost controllers set at 22psi, bigger turbo's

How can these guys get so great gas mileage with all of those mods. Are they lying? Do they know how to calculate miles per gallon?

The main thing for me, I don't wanna vent to atmosphere like this cuz i'm running a lil rich, a maf-t will cure that, and allow me to tune a lil.

as I said in my first post, I have (2) 1st gen AWD'z so dsmlink is outta the question.

Hey, Okay. I dont know how they get that mileage with all the fuel mods, mainly because I havent started tweaking my fuel yet. But Miles per gallon is simple.

Go to the station and fill up, Reset the tripmeter, and drive off.
When Its time to fill up again, fill up and note how much gas you took to top off.
Divide the miles on the tripmeter by the number of gallons you just put in and viola! mpg

And Like I said, DSM link is out for the 1g's now. I dont have it, nor do I know how to use it, but its out. Like $500 something for the EEPROM and socketing if you need it and a cable.

Hope I helped,

If the mods are done correctly, it's possible to get gas mileage as good or better than stock, just drive the car sanely avoiding boosting every chance you get.

While the car is cruising in closed loop you can't change the A/F since that's driven off the feedback from the O2 sensor. So low throttle corrections on the SAFC are used to bring parameters into normal ranges and to get the fuel trims as close to 100% as possible so the ECU can do it's job.

Until you do, don't vent.

You know what Defiant, Im gunna keep venting. I got a really great deal on this blow off valve.

Before I put on this HKS blow off valve, I had nasty idle surge with the stock BOV.
I installed the HKS BOV and my idle surge was cured. I know it sounds weird and unbelieveable, but that was my own experience. I also noticed this blow off valve responds much faster then the stock BOV did.

I could have also purchased another 1g bov, but why?
When i can get a HKS BOV for a $100.00 with the 1g adapter included.
i think that was a deal. It cured my idle surge, it seems to work better then my stock 1st gen BOV.

99gst racer, How much money am I looking at spending if I decide to go with dsmlink for both of my 1st gen AWD's? I'm sure its not cheap.

This is the hobby you've chosen. It's not cheap. Many people have a difficult time affording to mod one vehicle. You feel the need to modify two.

I'd suggest building one of the AWD's more powerful than the other. Put Link in one and a piggyback in the other. If you can't afford to build the piss out of both, then just do one....

Yeah, He's right. It aint cheap at all. I just dropped $5g's in my talon and feel justified in every way. But thats because Im dedicated to it. Im willing to bet that if I had 2 Talons to work on, although Id be very happy, hog heaven even,

My wife would leave me LOL

To mod the ECU for EPROM and a Link Chip runs at $565. Myself, Ill probably go SAFC just to keep myself in the bedroom and off of the couch. LOL

Good luck either way though.

If your not gonna do a whole lot of mods I would suggest the zeitronex wideband and the maf-t, failry cheap setup and very easy to tune.

yea, i understand its gunna be expensive to get the dsmlink on both of my cars.

99gst racer, that is exactly what i am gunna do.

Since i drive my red awd daily, I'm gunna go with a maf-t with translator, S-afcII, Datalogger, maybe wideband.

I wanna make sure I learn everything there is to know about tuning on my red awd first, then buy dsmlink later down the line.

Im not gunna lose out at all, since i have 2 awd's.

For right now, once i get the basics down first and know how to read a log, I can get the dsmLink on the other car and tune away.

I wanna make sure I'm comfortable tuning with the datalogger and S-afcII and wideband before I jump on the dsmlink, take it slow, so I learn the most at my own pace.

I don't live near anyone that could help me out with tuning my cars, so I have to take matters into my own hands and learn everything on here, step by step.

yea, $1100 is a lot for both cars. I rather get it for only one car. If I wanna swap over dsmlink into the other car, i can.
