i had the apexi safc and putting the aem ems in so from what i understand i dont need the safc anymore and i was wondering whats the best setup for coil on plug to go along with that and i was originally going to buy the gm maf and translator do i need that now to run a bigger intake pipe or just a sensor? theres so many threads to look through

Ok, first of all what is your goals with the car? What other modifications do you have? AEM EMS, from what I've seen, takes quite some know-how to use. It is a full standalone electronic system. You will not need the SAFC anymore as the AEM is taking over as the car's computer. The system will let you go into the computer and change out values rather than through a piggyback device like a MAF translator or SAFC. A piggyback device interrupts the signal to the ECU and changes it. See the difference here? The AEM IS programmable with a laptop to there is no need to interrupt the signals from the sensors. I believe that AEM can be set up to run a MAF or Speed Density system. Oh, you can still get the GM MAF if you want to still run a MAF style system but you won't need the translator with AEM.

Usually going something full standalone on a turbo dsm is needed when you are going for big power and absolutely need to be in control of every little input. A fantastic system for those of us who are running more of a street car setup is DSMlink. It uses the factory wiring harness but through a chip installed in the computer (computer has to be EPROM, though) it allows the user to go in and change values, run speed density is desired, and have a nice range of adjustable variables that are more intuitive for beginners and experienced tuners alike.

A friend of mine runs the AEM system on his talon. He wishes he would've went with with DSMlink just for the simplicity factor. The AEM is quite involved. It's a very powerful tool and a great one, but complex.

yeah im yea imtrying for big hp numbers eventually in process for saving for larger turbo i just bought a stroker motor and head setup to be 800hp capable i dont plan on getting that much but wanted it built stronger than needed im having it tuned and dynoed by an aem cert shop once we get everything put together for the most part if it can be upgraded it has been so i wanted it to get tuned correctly with the ems . as far as a coil on pkug setup should i get a coil amplifier from aem or is that necessary with the ems. can i just use the boost sensor from the safc and is there any other sensors i should think bout installing i just want to make sure when i take it to be tuned they have the best means to be done right and not worry about my new motor

Yea talongirl was patient but foremost she was informative and explained it in case the op was unsure of the facts. Completely agree with going link at half the price of aem ems for his and most people's setups.

well i seem to like to spend money i just spent 7000 on my motor and few other parts rather not see anything happen to it and i like the extra options the ems has money not really an issue with the 20000 thats gone into over past few yearsim taking it to a reputable tuner just with the cost per hour for him just trying to get everything close as possible before it shows up there thanks for the info i dont know alot about the electronics side and been reading up past 6hrs and not findjng answers to what im looking for

Well, glad to hear that you will be having someone tune the car for you. As far as coil setups go.. I know Sparktech makes a good one. I honestly do not have much knowledge in that area since an ignition system upgrade is not necessary at the power levels I'm at. ha.. But I've heard good things about coil-over systems and if you are wanting an 800HP capability then check out what places like Sparktech has to offer.

You shouldn't need anything related to the SAFC when going standalone.
I agree, DSMlink would still be a viable option in this case as well.

PS: Please use punctuation in your posts so they are easier to read. Thanks!
PPS: I have an engine out in the machine shop if you'd like to donate some money. ;)

my cousin races and i just donated a block for his stock car haha im running low on play money goodluck with your project. thanks for all the info. i keep reading and reading trying to learn as much as possible but when it comes to a big hp motor ill leave it to someone that tunes them everyday. he said he would spend some time with ne to go over everything if i want to make any adjustments. im just trying to make sure i got the right parts to have my motor lasts so thanks to anyone who has any suggestions. tryin to pick out cam gears right now its between fidanza, brian crower, and aem there all in the 200 to 250 range any suggestions? im running bc 272 cams

Noobie...grammar...fix it.

This is not a suggestion, but rather an instruction. You agreed to a rule set, so post within said rules.

And have been able to blow up the motor at stock levels. Be safe before any tuning you try to do yourself on either platform.

As for the COP setup. It's really not needed at all unless you are experiencing spark blow out or want to run a larger gap. You should still utilize a better ignition box to really reap the benefits. The stock coils are fine for really anything you can throw at it.

I will say that COP setups look nice!

Just throwing this out there but AEM doesn't have to be double the price. I bought mine used for $700. If you don't have an eprom ECU then the full version of V3 plus the price of an eprom ECU or the conversion and you will be right at $700.

As noted above, you can find an EMS cheap. The learning curve is a tad bit steeper than chip tunes or Link.

There's also the AEM EMS-4...much cheaper than the full standalone, but more of a learning curve because you have to wire it. Then there is the Megasquirt, which you should need to be a genius to even consider learning. I always suggest everything but what's based on stock parts. I will also never back up a company that sells hardware that you have to pay to get more features through just a simple firmware upgrade.
