Ok Here Goes,

Im working with my 1g Talon Tsi AWD and i currently have all of the calipers removed because i planned to have them powder coated. (Also i had to replace the right rear which is new)

While packaging up the calipers i realized that im dumping a lot of cash to improve stock calipers. i know it is cosmetic but i cannot stand nice wheels and rusty a$$ calipers.


To powder coat the calipers im paying about $200.00 for all 4 calipers

The rotors for all 4 wheels are going to be about $200 so that is already $400.00

The above prices just cover powder coating my stock calipers and 4 new brembo cross drilled/ slotted rotors.

im thinking i should just clean up the rear stock calipers and rotors and just buy a kit for the fronts if i can do it at a reasonable price.

does anyone know a good deal for a big brake upgrade kit? i would prefer baer, stoptech, apracing etc. i know i can do the stock big brake upgrade but i want something nice with low maintenance.

I just put the Baer kit on my 1Gb. I like it quite a bit but it took three months on order and nobody had them in stock at the time. I guess Baer was dragging their feet on the distributers' orders. I got my kit from hopupracing.com for $655 + ~$70 shipping. Just remember that with almost all of the big brake kits aside from the early-late stock 1g upgrade you will need 17" or larger wheels.

well for those who see this post ....... Dont attempt to order the baer brakes unless you want to wait months to get them

the guys at www.hopupracing.com were great but told me that if no one has them in stock then DO NOT ORDER THEM.
 
I got the track kit with slotted and zinc washed rotors for $625 shipped from www.streetortrack.com for my 2g. Should be coming in soon- so far it's been about 7 weeks, so hopefully you're not in a hurry to get them. For $625 it's worth the wait I'd say.
 
Yeah, like I said, it took three months to get them. I was told by Baer directly that they would have the brackets for my car in two weeks. I called every two weeks for two and a half months. The price was right and the parts are nice. The install is pretty easy too. If you can change rotors and pads you won't have any problems. I don't think you'll find them in stock anywhere but they are worth the wait if you have time...
 
you could always just clean up yours and paint them. the guy before me painted mine with high temp caliper paint and it seems to be holding up okay. just take off the calipers push in the pistons so the rubber seal doesnt get paint on it and clean off all the rust first.
 
After calling around ive decided just to have them powder coated and be done with it. i called everywhere to find out Baer has been bad with shipping brakes period and the customers keep getting told different stories as to when they will recieve their kits.

All 4 calipers are on their way now and i figured i would get the cross drilled / slotted rotors seeing i didnt spend money on a kit.

if anyone is interestead i found a guy that will do the brakes for $40 a caliper and he has a ton of proof of his work viewable on-line.
 
Watch your cross-drills for cracking on the edges.. with both drills and slots, you've got a lot less meat to act as structural integrity, and it'd suck to lose one.
 
You could pick up a set of dual piston calipers and some SS lines... thats what I did... Given that I was going to invest in Rotors... I might as well get the bigger rotors.

I would stay away from the cross-drilled rotors... if you are in that for the look... you can always get the ones with dimples.
