bent valves while cranking?

So I went to crank over the engine after a fresh build to get oil pressure,and I had my friend stand in front of the engine to make sure everything was good. He noticed the timing belt was being shredded and it jumped a couple of teeth.

Can you hear when the valves bend? We didnt hear anything. I messed up on the tensioner and I now have to replace the belt. Is it possible to bend valves while just cranking?

Yes, anytime the engine is rotating it can bend valves.

You wouldn't hear anything. Try putting a new belt on and doing a compression test.

Replace the belt and crank or do compression test to make sure before you go tearing the head off. Mine broke once and didn't bend the valves.

Ok thank you for everones help,I just dont want to go tearing in the head,but I will do that if everyone thinks I should. If not I will replace the belt and use the special tool on the idler,put a new belt on,and compression test.

Shredded teeth jumped time, bent some valves maybe not all but some im sure. If it wont start now, well thats your answer.

pop the valve cover off and look for followrs that fell off, if they are off, then you have bent valves.

also you will not hear them bend.

you could pull the cams off and do a compression test since all the valves would be closed that way you dont have to do the tbelt two more times

Black GST... a compression would not show properly, the intake valves would not open to let air in to compress.

a leak down test would work better, or just putting shop air in the cylinder then listen at the tail pipe and TB
