beating engines twice its size?

the shirts for dsmtuners say that 4g63t can beat engines twice its size. i sure as hell believe this, but out of curiosity what are examples of cars with twice the engine size that a pretty basic turbo charged eclipse or talon or laser(4g63t) could take.

according to this page (http://www.fast-autos.net/chevrolet/03chevroletcorvette.html) c5 corvettes run mid 13s stock. The first 7 pages of the 1/4 mile list here are higher than that. the new c6s run mid 12s stock.

Stock for stock you won't be beating any of those cars.

Assuming driver skill is the same, they'll win. People tend to forget that DSMs are low 15/high 14 stock...not good enough to beat low 14 Gt/z28s or low/mid 13 corvettes.

DSMs are great cars that can be made fast for relativily cheap, but lets not make them out to be the owners of the world even in stock form.

No he doesn't have anything summed up. The original poster was asking about basic DSMs beating cars with engines twice their size. None of those cars are "basic" DSMs.



On a side note:

Funny how we seem to always compare our modified DSM #s to STOCK V8s. Like V8s are never modified...

I ran with, and often beat GTs with only a boost controller and exhaust.

Anyways, as far as it goes with my modest list of mods, i can run with almost anything i see on the streets daily. I rarely see vettes where i am, but alot of stangs and camaros. Lotsa punkass thug dudes who wanna race you in their lowered s10 pickup trucks and stuff, and alot of hondas. Im sure i surprise most people off the line and that gives me an advantage, but for the most part we are pretty quick after a few bucks

If you REALLY want to get technical, mustangs, camaroes, and corvettes all have more than double engine size... 2.5x at least i think kyou could run with most 4.4 liters in most BMWs and 4.6 liters...

I bear witness to the gospel that is the DSM...i use to own a 02 transam...i ran low 13's high 12's all day everyday..i had a borla exhaust hooker headers and an k@n FIPK and some eagle f-1's....i got OWNED by a 2g eclipse gsx...not just beat, owned..and i consider myself a pretty decent driver.... at the end of the run when i had given up and started cursing he was easily 4-5 car links on me and pullign like a mad man...it was this one incident that turned me on to the DSM world

I use to talk the talk of how the american v-8 was invincible on the street...it was only fitting for me to have my ass whooped by a car that i thought was so inferior, and strangely twisted how i came to love them over the incident....i still hang with alot of guys who are pro american muscle and i can respect it...you can build a 350 to over 1000 hp if you so choose to, but as far as the true streetable road warrior title...i give it to the imports with small engines pushing insane boost i cant wait to pick my car up and start showing these guys locally what they are capable of

as far as the Z06..i hold that as a grey area...my dad has one and i have had it out and put it through the numbers a few times..and its just insane, i will not say that a DSM cant beat it ( after i get my car here you can be sure that i will post a story of who comes out on top) but i will say that your car would have to be on top of its game before you lock horns with one...you have a less then perfect run on a car running high 11's and the Z06 is going to eat your lunch

Run 20+ psi in your trans am and see if that 2g can hang with you... :laugh:
