Hey...I just put my new engine in the car. It idles fine but the throttle response is so bad the when i take off i hold it to the floor and it barley even goes i just adjusted the ignition timing to factory setting. Is there anything i should check and i also have a check engine light on too. Should i retard the timing or advandce it or anything like that. Thanks

The same part throttle and off boost response shouldn't be expected with 272s versus stock cams. That is how the profile of the stock cams are designed. Im sure you could tune plenty of response back in though. I see you have dsmlink, are you using a wideband as well? What turbo are you running?

No i dont have dsmlink it is in my parts wishlist. but the trottle cable feels fine. Yea but this is poor throttle response it barly takes off. i have a 14b. the marks still line up on the ignition timing. Thanks

So i will assume you are not using a wideband?
Are you using anything to tune with or just stock computer?
272s alter the VE of the engine which will require tuning.

90 Talon AWD this is a wild guess, but you didn't put the wrong cam gears
on the wrong cams ? Meaning the inlet cam has the exh gear on it etc.
Cheers !

you're going to need some form of engine management/logging as well as a wideband to get it to run well with the cams

Ok thank you, So i guess i will go ahead and buy dsmlink. No i made sure i did not put the wrong cam gears on the wrong cams.

Also, Could i tune the whole car myself with dsmlink. Thanks

I'm sure that you could. There are plenty of do-it-yourselfer's out there. If you're not familiar with the programming, though, it's going to take you some time to get a handle on it - which means LOTS of research, especially with ECMlink's v3 that was just recently released. ECMtuning's website will provide you with all the information that you'll need to get yourself set-up. Just make sure that if you're going to tune the car yourself, you cover all your bases BEFORE you start so you don't junk your freshly built motor.

Good that the std cam gears are on the correct cams. Cam dialing is ok.
Many people fit adjustable gears & don't use the std gears as a template
to mark the aligning points on the adjustable gears. Followed by dialing.
Bigger cams (duration) makes the engine pump more air & the same turbo
will spool differently, which alters the a/f ratio compared to the std tune.
So yeah, get stuck into tuning the car before bumping up overall timing.
Cheers !
