has anyone here relocated their battery to the trunk in a fwd car? i know i need all the weight i can have in the front but it gets annoying to take it out everytime i have to do work on that side of the car. also a cleaner engine bay would look nice, and i wouldnt mine moving my disc changer up front to accomodate the battery in the trunk.

so would you advise against this? of course i would get a different bat like the optima red top. any input would be nice.

Rice it out a little and remove the passenger seat, put your battery AND the cd changer in its place, and BAM you satisfy your needs. JK LOL

Your right it does make the bay look alot cleaner, if you were going to do it get a lighter battery that doesnt look bad and go for it, kinda cool i think.

I just barely did mine, ill take some pictures later of it, but i havent hooked up the kill switch for on the outside. and instead of having a fuse box for the hot wire to the engine its a curcuit breaker which works nice (200amp btw).

I dont think you should put your cd player next to the battery or else youd have more problems about your battery blowing up while that alternator is giving it a little charge which gives off a highly flameable gases. if your goin to do it, just get rid of all the crap in the rear trunk and buy a battery loc. kit then wolla done. alos i bought a circuit breaker for mine not a fusebox.

I think the only con is losing that weight up front , which you probably need being fwd. Especially if your car has already been lightened. Its personal preference but just wanted to add that.

I've seen a lot of pictures of bat. relocations in the gallery, although the search doesn't seem to be working for me right now.

I don't really see how much of a difference a battery would make? They aren't that heavy. Taking it and putting it in the back would make things a whole lot easier, especially if your going to b going down and messing with the rear motor mount, or later on when u decide to install a front mount piping, maft, msd ignition, etc. Things can get cluttered pretty quick and that extra room would be nice.

You will need a sealed batttery box. The one you linked to is not. The moroso is.

Basicly if you want to run at a drag strip you will need a sealed box. Why, because our cars do not have a partition between the back seat and the trunk.

Also you will need to be able to shut your car off completely, so don't forget to wire the alternater to the kill switch also.

Good luck.

OK... I purchased the Moroso Box and the 125 Amp Kill switch. Is the only other thing I need 4 guage wire? No Terminals or nothing?

Think about what your doing. You going to need your positive red cable to extend from front of car to rear. You will possibly need a new Ground cable too, unless you can get away using the old one. You can use the old terminal connectors. And finially cable to hook up your kill swtich.

does anyone know where i can get a battery relocation kit or know exactly what materials i would need to do this?

I'm not happy with the placement options for doing the battery relocation on my car. Maybe some of you guys have already done this "mod" and could throw up a picture on where you put the battery? It's for a 1996 Talon TSI (FWD).
Thanks guys

Well, the idea is pretty simple, you run the wire through the side of the car and place a battery somewhere in the trunk. When I relocated my battery, I used a motorcycle battery and placed it on the driver's rear corner (on the same side as the little light) and then installed a kill switch behind the license plate and from there, the wire just went to the front of the car to a distrubution block. I cut off the stock terminal ring for the stocker battery and just put them into the distribution block. Also, a word of advice, do not buy those taylor battery relocation kits. I bought the 2 ga. option and I received 4 ga. cable (still labeled as 2 ga.), too short of negative cable, the battery box is HUGE, and the cable was anything but high quality. It is the kind with those thick copper wires bounded together, not the thin stuff. Its like the size of each individual strand was the same diameter as a paperclip. Just buy all the parts separate, and don't buy any kits. You will want to use cable AT LEAST 4 ga.

If I had to do it over again, I would of actually just put the battery on the right side of the trunk, not the left. There is more room there.

Believe me, I've done plenty of searching before.

And one more thing, this is for an AWD 2g, so I'm not sure if it still applies to a FWD.

The running of the wires and how to hook everything up isn't a problem. It's finding a secure location without having to fab anything. I can't find anything... stable enough... to place the huge battery box. Or at least, I'm not happy with the placement. I wanted to see how others have done it in a FWD model.

Take out the spare, grind away the mount, put the box there, then you can put the "floor" back over it and nobody is the wiser. :thumb:

I'm starting to think that might be the best way. I'll have to relocate the washer fluid reservoir

Ive seen an optima red top mounted in that cubby? on the right side of the trunk, where the 6 disc changer would go. They had a bar going into the holes that the changer bracket would go and it held the battery in just fine. If you want I can try to find the pic again.

I'd like that alot

Its not the red top, Its a normal battery. I thought it was a red top for some reason :coy: . I dont know how a red top compares to the size of the stock one. Some time this week or weekend I will be going out to help my friend install his E3 16g and he has a red top so I can check if it will fit or not.

if you relocate your battery, and you want to take your car to the track. Don't you have to get a cut off switch. (maybe this is just for my local track)
